9/25/17

Week of 9/25

Math: This week we add thousands to Place Value. We are using manipulatives and review sheets to gain an understanding of how many tens and hundreds are in one thousand.

Language Arts: We continue to enjoy Charlotte’s Web. We are enjoying many other Read Alouds, some related to Australia as I collected some children’s literature while I was there. They are going to know more about Australian animals than the average second grader!

We are reviewing Alliteration and looking for it in other books we read. We are also working on CONTRACTIONS and words that end in “le”.

We continue to use CUPS in our writing. This is part of our writing toolbox and we are encouraging adding details in all we do.

Guided Reading is always having a focus on using meaning, structure and visual cues and developing comprehension strategies.

Science: We have finally started Science with a brief introduction to Volcanoes! (Yes, this was a topic on on the original monthly homework sheet).

Religion: We are beginning a Unit about the Holy Spirit!

SPECIAL NOTES:

-New homework sheets went home Monday to be returned the next Monday.

-Progress Reports & Pictures sent home Wednesday!

-Students are getting into the habit of coloring in their Planner for their Classroom Conduct. If they forget, it is likely green. I, too, am getting used to this and will be stapling in Reflection Sheets for your signature.

-Students are adjusting to the changes and we are breaking things down into smaller time frames with the hopes that we can increase time on task/attention, thereby learning and growing academically.

-Please note the website is up and running. I will update each week but you may want to add dates to your calendar for upcoming field trips.

-Thanks for supporting our class and encouraging your children to be their best and ready to learn!
