Week of 11/13

Are you seeing or reading this whole message? Class reminders are at the bottom. Please scroll to the end if you are looking for calendar updates.

Look What We Are Learning!

Math: Adding multiple digits without regrouping. Adding and subtracting tens to help foster that understanding and ease of number fluency.

Language Arts: We are enjoying READ ALOUDS that are Thanksgiving themed and a few fractured fairy tales in between. We are working in small groups to foster fluency and really trying to practice “self correction”--fixing a mistake in our reading by ourselves.

Word Study: All new groups have begun! We have 4. Students have started them in class and we will send home lists for home review. Please note our QUIZ will be on Monday!

Writing Focus is letter writing and thank you cards! You will see this reflected in homework and a note card to write their own is being sent home Tuesday. It does not need to come to me. During this time of Thanksgiving I have encouraged them to give it to someone special! ( We are even using 4 square strategies to help us write letters!)

We are being particular about having the greeting being written by itself, the body of the letter or note beneath it and the closing below that, followed by a signature. Here is a practical example:

Dear Second Grade Families,

Thanks to so many of you who came to conferences last week. It was nice to connect with you all. I can’t believe how fast time is flying! For those who still may want to chat or set up a meeting, please send me an email and we can arrange a teleconference or I can answer specific questions.

I will also get Lexile levels sent out to those who were not able to attend. I am creating cards for the kids to take to the school library to help them select books. I will also email each of you with the Lexile level.Hope to see you at the Thanksgiving Breakfast!

Best,

Valerie McLaughlin

Canned goods! The school goal is to collect 100 cans per class. If you can without hardship, please help us reach our goal. Those who have donated, thanks! We are presently at 18 (that could be one per kid but those are mostly from me and a couple students! Can we try to at least double that number by Friday?
