How many participants will there be?
We expect to have approximately 25 volunteers on our program at any point.
Do I need any vaccinations?
Yes. All volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We also strongly recommend our volunteers consult with a medical professional before traveling. As every individual has their own health needs and levels of acceptable risk, we encourage you to work with your medical professional to decide on the best preventative measures for you. An up-to-date Tetanus vaccination is highly recommended.
Can I leave the program early?
We have planned the program with the intention for all participants to remain on the program for the entire duration. However, we understand unexpected circumstance arises and the need to depart program may occur.
Will there be time to rest?
Yes. You will be free on Saturdays to rest and catch up on personal errands.
Is COVID-19 testing mandatory?
Yes. All Hands and Hearts require all volunteers to present a negative antigen test prior to the start of program. The test must be taken within 72 hours of your arrival to the program. Testing before travel helps mitigate some of the risk of COVID-19 and helps us protect the community we serve, our volunteers and our staff. We may also be conducting random COVID testing of the base throughout program depending on local COVID cases.
Can I bring anything for the program?
We have a wishlist where you can find our most needed items!
How am I getting to program?
When your place is confirmed we will arrange for all volunteers to be collected from the airport and brought to our base. Volunteers are required to make their own arrangements to and from program which may include expenses related to layovers. Please see the “traveling to program” section of this hub for further information.
