We're excited to have you joining us on our Hurricane Helene Relief Program!
Volunteers are responsible for getting to and from the program on their own. Please be sure to factor in costs when planning your journey. You will find more information about how to travel to the program by reading the information on this page.
For security reasons, we do not disclose the exact location of our base on this website. However, once you’ve applied and have been accepted, you’ll receive a detailed step-by-step guide on everything you need to know to plan your journey. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
Our Volunteer Coordination Managers will be processing your application and providing all the information you need to prepare for the program. These managers work remotely and can be contacted via the program email account: hurricanehelenerelief@allhandsandhearts.org
Prior (10-14 days) to your arrival, the Volunteer Relations Coordinator for your program will be reaching out to answer any last-minute questions and provide any last-minute support. Please be sure to download the Whatsapp app on your phone as this is not only the primary means of communication before the program. It is also the primary source of communication while on the program.
The quickest way to get to our base is via taxi, Uber or Lyft from the Asheville Regional Airport. It is about $40- $50 for an Uber and about 30-40 minutes from the airport. We'll provide detailed directions once you're accepted to volunteer.
We welcome new arrivals on Mondays through Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
1) Asheville, North Carolina (AVL) is the closest airport ( 25 miles, 34 minutes away.) It is a small regional airport so flights may be limited or more expensive.
2) Greenville, South Carolina (GSP) This airport is about an hour away and 65 miles from the base
3) Charlotte (CLT) is the nearest major airport in the region. It is about 2 hours, 106 miles
Our base does have room for parking a standard size vehicle. If you are planning to drive or have additional questions regarding driving, please reach out to the Volunteer Relations Coordinator, Jaime at jaime.rs@allhandsandhearts.org
Our base does not have space for RVs or trailers. If you would like to stay in your own RV/trailer, you will need to find your own RV park or legal space to park it/set it up and you can volunteer with us as a Day Volunteer. Conveniently, there is a campground very near to our base where other Day Volunteers living in an RV have stayed. If you do not have the proper setup for water and electricity, you will still need to find a place to park it, but you can always stay with us as a Residential Volunteer.
