Our project site, Shree Bhanubhakta Secondary School is located about 60 Km away from Sindhuli town (or 60Km away from Hetauda city) and is one of the remote areas which has very limited services or facilities available for common people of the area. Most of the people living in this area are poor and their major source of income is either farming or foreign employment in the Middle East. There are not a lot of secondary school options available for the kids of this region although the area has a lot of potential to have students from different schools, especially the students after graduating Grade 8.
This school serves about 250 students (grades ECD to 10) from nearby households. The school was badly damaged by the 2015 earthquake, but has managed to construct two Temporary Learning Centers (TLCs) which are still in use along with a few other old buildings that sustained heavy damage.
This is an aerial view of where we will be working on the ground up construction of two new school buildings for Shree Bhanubhakta Secondary School. We will have a highly experienced team of construction and engineering specialists who will ensure that the school is built to the highest standards
The construction work on site includes site clearance, minor excavation work, debris removal, material transportation, rebar bending, foundation digging, mixing mortar and concrete, building forms for concrete pours and finishing touches like painting and trim work. The start of program may include some project ramp up works, and the end of program will include some program ramp down activities.
We will be starting our days early! Breakfast will be available from 6:00 AM, and we will leave for the site at 7:00 AM. Lunch typically starts at 12 PM and then the work will continue between 1 and 4 pm. We will also factor in some 10-15 minute water breaks throughout the day to ensure everyone stays hydrated and gets some rest because the work could be intense.
After you return home from the work site, you will have a chance to unwind, relax, and reflect on your day as a part of our nightly team meeting. After that, we’ll serve dinner. Every All Hands and Hearts base has a curfew and quiet hours in place to ensure we all get enough rest before the next working day. Please remember that they are non-negotiable and apply both to staff and volunteers. We are taking our work very seriously, so we expect that you will understand and obey the rules to help us make this program a successful one!
