We're excited to have you joining us on our program in Hariharpurgadhi Nepal!
Volunteers are responsible for getting to and from the program on their own. Please be sure to factor in costs when planning your journey. You will find more information about how to travel to the program by reading the information on this page.
For security reasons, we do not disclose the exact location of our base on this website. However, once you’ve applied and have been accepted, you’ll receive a detailed step-by-step guide on everything you need to know to plan your journey. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
While planning your journey please make sure you familiarise yourself with visa and entry requirements. As visa regulations vary depending on nationality, and are subject to frequent change, All Hands and Hearts can not offer guidance. We strongly recommend speaking with your local embassy or looking at your government's website for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Please, take the time to familiarize yourself with any medical or vaccination requirements, such as for COVID-19 and other restrictions in your destination country and other countries you may travel to before or after your time on the program as these could be different to the All Hands and Hearts requirement.
Please read our full COVID advice document to learn more about our safety measures, and guidance for staying safe while traveling to the program. You can read more about our safety measures on the Health, Safety and Security page.
Visit the Nepal Government Ministry of Home Affairs Immigration Office office to find out what are the entry requirements for your country.
Our Volunteer Coordination Managers will be processing your application and providing all the information you need to prepare for the program. These managers work remotely and can be contacted via the program emails account: ahahnepalrelief@allhandsandhearts.org
Prior (10-14 days) to your arrival, the Volunteer Relations Coordinator for your program will be reaching out to answer any last-minute questions and provide any last-minute support. Please be sure to download the Whatsapp app on your phone as this is not only the primary means of communication before the program. It is also the primary source of communication while on the program.
Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is the largest international airport in Nepal and is located in the capital city of Kathmandu. We recommend all volunteers fly into Kathmandu at least one day prior to your scheduled arrival date and then arrange ground transportation to our base in Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality in the Sindhuli District the following day (Tuesday or Thursday).
We recommend you make overnight accommodations in Thamel, which is Kathmandu’s most popular tourist area. There are a variety of options based on a range of budgets and comfort levels.
Thamel is approximately 6km (3.7 miles) west of the Kathmandu airport. You can travel there by taxi for approximately 1000 NPR or $8 USD. Sajha Yatayat is the public bus system in Nepal if you'd like to explore a different option.
We will provide more detailed information about traveling to our base when you have been selected to volunteer for our Hariharpurgadhi Program.
Volunteers will need to arrange ground transportation from Kathmandu to Tinkuna village of Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality in the Sindhuli District. We recommend taking the Jeep (also known as Tata Sumo). The travel time is approximately 8 hours and costs approximately 1200 - 1500 Nepalese Rupee (NPR) or $11 USD. The price varies depending on the number of passengers in the Jeep (up to 11). It leaves between 6 AM - 2 PM, however, it depends on the number of passengers available. You must be at the bus stop at 6 AM in order to secure a spot in the vehicle.
Volunteers also have the option to travel to Hetauda City by jeep (approximately 700 NPR) and then travel from Hetauda City to Hariharpurgadhi (approximately 400 NPR). This travel time is around 7 hours.
We will provide more detailed information about traveling to our base when you have been selected to volunteer for our Hariharpurgadhi Program.
