How many participants will there be?
We have invited around 20 volunteers to be on the program at any given time. This number will fluctuate with interest and program needs.
Do I need any vaccinations specific to the Nepal Program?
We strongly encourage all staff and residential volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and Influenza. This is to help minimize the risk of requiring hospitalization during illness and to avoid taking valuable health resources away from the local community. We also recommend our volunteers consult with a medical professional before traveling. As every individual has their own health needs and levels of acceptable risk, we encourage you to work with your medical professional to decide on the best preventative measures for you. An up-to-date Tetanus vaccination is highly recommended.
How long should I volunteer for?
We encourage you to stay as long as you like, but please note that all volunteers are required to take a 3 day break after 30 days on program. Volunteers are responsible for making their own travel and sleeping accommodations while on break, so please plan accordingly.
Can I join the program at any time?
We accept new volunteer arrivals each Tuesday and Thursday during the duration of the program. Volunteers are highly encouraged to travel during the day and arrive on base before 5 pm.
How do I confirm my spot on program?
All volunteers must complete an application and background check before an invitation will be sent. Once you receive your invitation, you will be asked to complete a waiver to fully confirm your spot on program.
Can I extend my stay once I’m there? we encourage you to extend your stay with us. Providing there is availability, you are welcome to extend. If this is something you may be interested in, consider initially purchasing a one-way ticket to the Philippines or a flexible return ticket.
How do I get to program?
All volunteers are required to arrange their own transportation to and from our Nepal Program. You can find specific information in the “traveling to program” section of this Hub.
Can I leave program early?
You are welcome to adjust your dates if you need to leave our program earlier than expected. However, we ask that you let us know as soon as you need to make a change so we can plan work in the field accordingly. if an unexpected circumstance arises, we will do all that we can to support you if you need to return home.
Will there be time to rest? The work week will run from Sunday to Friday, and everyone will take Saturday off work to rest. In addition to the weekends, all volunteers will be asked to take a mandatory three-day break every 30 days to allow time for physical and mental rest and a seven-day break if they stay on the program for more than three months.
Can I bring anything for the program? We have a wishlist where you can find our most needed items! We would be very grateful if you could bring a few items along with you as a donation for the program.
