The Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality (Rural Municipality is known as Gaupalika in Nepali) lies in the Sindhuli district which is about 200KM (124 miles) southeast of Kathmandu.
This Rural Municipality has 8 wards and a population of approximately 28,000. The headquarters of the municipality lies in ward number 2. Our project site is located in ward number 3, which is about 4 Km away from our last project Shree Janaprabhat Ni Ma Vi School.
Next to our last finished school, about 4km from the base, you can find one small market that has several small stores, food cafes, a lodge, and a small health clinic.
Sindhuli (3 hours away by bus) and Hetauda (2.5 hours away by bus) are larger towns and have the majority of the amenities you might need, such as large shops, hotels, hospitals, and banks.
It is recommended to have all needed things purchased from home or Kathmandu before heading to the base in Hariharpurgadhi because options around the base are quite limited.
Winter in Southeast Nepal can be very cold in the months of November through March, particularly in the late evenings and early mornings. In April and May the temperatures begin to gradually increase, but thunderstorms are common. June is the early monsoon season and the chance of daily thunderstorms increases and heavy continuous rainfall is common. Please be sure to check the local forecast and pack accordingly.
