Hello! This is Mr. Miguel, your school counselor. I'm happy to serve our students and families at Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary. The Salinas Valley has been my home since I was born and I value the richness of our people, land, and culture. My focus has been serving student and family needs. I understood the importance of seeking greater opportunities that would impact my family and community and began my educational journey at Hartnell College, and later transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Upon graduation, I received a double bachelor’s in history and Chicana and Chicano Studies. After a few years of working within education and the non-profit mental health fields, I earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Counseling from San José State University.

I find my work to be significant because the obstacles within our larger community motivate me to be a servant-leader who embodies purpose, commitment, and a profound desire for our community’s achievement towards greater self-determination.
