How will GCSE Music help me in the future? 

In the future, creativity is going to be one of the most important and in-demand skills at work (World Economics Forum.)  When business leaders across the world were surveyed, they voted creativity as the most important workplace skill to help their business survive and grow.  

This means that the study of creative subjects, like Music, is becoming even more important and relevant to young people - whatever your ambitions.  

What skills will I gain? 


Your practical skills of compositing music and performing will be refined and will demonstrate creativity, reflection and resilience, as well as developing confidence and presentation skills. 


Studying music will give you opportunities for higher order thinking, be considering ideas which go beyond language.  


You will gain a deep understanding of a number of transferable skills and practice applying these to new situations, developing analytical and problem solving skills.  

Course Overview 

Eduqas GCSE Music is made up of three components.  Two components are teacher assessed and the final unit is assessed as a formal written exam.   

Component 1: Performing (30%) 

A minimum of two pieces, lasting a total of 4-6 minutes, recorded by your teacher.  On which must be an ensemble performance (group piece) lasting at least one minute and the other piece either a solo or ensemble piece.  

Grade 3 music is the standard level and students can score full marks if played perfectly.  

Students can use any instrument or voice, or choose a technology option.  

Component 2: Composing (30%) 

Students will compose (create) two pieces of music.  One composition will be in response to a brief set by Eduqas and one free composition in ANY style you want to write in.  

Component 3: Appraising (40%)

A listening exam made up of 8 questions, 2 on each (4) areas of study, including film music and popular music.
