One of its hapū that being Ngāti Te Aute of the Ngāti Maru iwi predominantly reside in Kirikiri. The boundaries of the the whenua are indicated by the Tararu township and to the Kirikiri stream. As time has past decendants of the hapū have moved to various areas external to it hapū boundaries. We all have the responsibility to reconnect and return with our hapū and our marae.
