The kawa of our marae follows the protocol of Tainui waka. As Pare Hauraki is one of the four houses of Tainui including Pare Hauraki, Pare Waikato, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Raukawa. Formal oral protocol follow the kawa of Tū atu, tū mai. This protocol is caried on the marae atea and in the whare nui. Descendants of our marae are still expected to be welcomed on through the waharoa as the reason we gather there guides us, that being a tangihanga, powhiri or a hui. Our deceased lay on the māhau of our marae if the weather permits. Haukainga provide the mauwhiri with the larger side of the whare nui being the right hand side to show manaakitanga. Kaumātua and the ones who are knowledgable guide these practices. We rely heavily on those experienced to continue this kawa. Te Whare Tāhūhū Kōrero o Hauraki are teaching this kawa to ensure these practices are upheld in a respectful way.
