Toddle is a tool for planning, assessing, and reporting. It is a tool for all stakeholders at AISL including:
Teachers - to plan, assess, and report to parents and students
Students - to plan their time, view tasks/assignments, hand in work and receive feedback
Parents - to view tasks/assignments and see student progress
Leadership - to monitor planning, assessment and reporting across the school
Toddle is a way to communicate with students, teachers, and parents allowing for the greatest accessibility and is the main venue for students and parents to see tasks/assignments and feedback. It does not replace face to face communication of assessment directions and expectations nor direct communication with parents about specific student concerns or accomplishments when necessary or advantageous.
Summative assessments will be posted as far as possible in advance. Teachers are expected to post an upcoming summative one week prior to the date of the summative if it is a task to be completed in class, such as an exam, or on the day it is assigned for long term assessments, such as projects or presentations. Summative assessments OF learning; tasks & assignments are given feedback and grades using IB criteria. Summative tasks are set to blue in ‘Manage Categories’ on Toddle
Formative assessments must be posted prior to or on the day that they are assigned. Formative: assessment FOR learning; tasks, assignments & activities that provide feedback on learning and may be graded using IB criteria. Formative tasks are set to orange in ‘Manage Categories’.
Generally, teachers are expected to provide feedback to an assessment within a week, though there is the understanding that larger assessments, such as DP Internal Assessments, or those that require greater time to evaluate, may take longer. Teachers will assess work with the understanding that timely feedback is effective feedback. If a formative assessment has been issued in class, this will be indicated in Toddle. *Feedback: could be in the form of grades, comments, summary of class feedback/discussion etc.
Assessment frequency guidelines:
MYP Unit: at least 1 formative assessments and 1 summative must be recorded in Toddle with feedback (criteria level & comment or comment)
Semesters: DP: at least 3 summative assessments must be recorded in Toddle with feedback & grade out of 7
Assessment, both formative and summative, should be used as frequently as possible to ascertain a student’s level of understanding for the learning objectives and growth. At AISL, MYP subject groups assess each criteria once each semester, and all strands of the four criteria twice by the end of the year.
