Graduation pathway following the requirements of the IB Diploma
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right (“Mission” IBO 2019)
Graduation Requirements
In order to earn a U.S. High School Diploma at AISL, students need (pass with a final grade of 3 or higher) a minimum of twenty-four High School Credits within the following subject areas. One credit is awarded for year-long courses based on the final cumulative grade (June). For semester long courses, .5 credit will be awarded at the end of the semester. We recommend where possible that you follow the “recommended” pathway to access the DP and to keep more college & university options open.
In order to receive the High School Diploma students must also meet the Service Learning expectations, including documenting and reflection on the required outcomes within Toddle.
Attendance Policy and Course Credits
Attendance is recorded each class period and students must be present for a minimum of 90% of the scheduled class periods for each course during a semester. Absences exceeding 10% of scheduled classes during a semester may result in loss of course credit for the semester as determined by the school administration.
Acceptable reasons for absence that will not be included in attendance percentage calculation include the following, when the school is informed of an absence by a parent or guardian.
Illness
Family emergencies
Religious observances
School sponsored activities
Reasons other than those listed above, which are beyond the control of the student or the family, at the Secondary Principal’s discretion.
