Announcement of changes to the schedule for on campus access

AISE will be engaging in online learning until May 16th. IB exams will continue as scheduled and all exams will take place in the Gymnasium. It is our hope to return to Hybrid in person classes on May 16th. We will update the community as soon as we know.

Announcement of continued remote learning:

All high school students will continue to attend online (began Sunday April 18th) through Sunday April 25th. Students without symptoms may return to campus on Monday April 26th (see schedule below). Teachers who are not quarantined will be working from school but all students will attend via zoom.

If April 25 is not a holiday (if it was moved by the government) HS would remain online to finish the quarantine.

Daily Work Deadlines during Ramadan

We will extend the due date deadline for daily assigned tasks until Midnight throughout Ramadan to allow our students sufficient time to engage in family activities and observances and also complete their work from the day.

We wish you all a safe, healthy and happy Ramadan!

Announcement for April 11th

Dear Parents and Students;

The recent announcement from the ministry will have some impact on our current practices. Starting on Sunday April 11th, the following will go into effect for the High School:

Attendance on campus continues to be optional however students are expected to meet on zoom everyday, be in regular contact with their teachers, and complete all work assigned.

Teachers will be online at the start of each period and will provide a Zoom link for the beginning of each block during which students at home will check in with the teacher, have attendance taken, and understand the tasks for the day. Some teachers will teach the whole group at once while others work mainly with those in the physical room or invite small groups to stay on zoom. It is essential that all students zoom in for the start of class to know the day’s plan.

Bell Schedule:

As per policy, any work assigned during any period would be due by 10pm on that day so students unable to attend either physically or synchronously, can still submit the work.

Please remember the health protocols for school attendance, do not come to school if you have any symptoms. Please contact the clinic if you or any member of your household becomes ill. For those of you dealing with COVID in your families, you continue to be in our thoughts.

Announcement for March 24th

All students in the high school will be virtual next week along with the whole school. Teachers will be online and will provide a Zoom link for the beginning of each block during which students check in with the teacher, have attendance taken, and understand the tasks for the day. Some teachers will teach the whole group at once while others work virtually with small groups. It is essential that all students zoom in for the start of class. This synchronous schedule is for ALL cohorts. We will follow our regular bell schedule (see table to the right) and Thursday will remain a Dig In Day. As per policy, any work assigned during any period would be due by 10pm on that day so students unable to attend synchronously, can still submit the work.

Please remember to stay safe next week and limit your interactions with others as we head into the Spring Break. We plan to return to campus in Hybrid mode on April 11th with Cohort A.

For those of you dealing with COVID in your families, you continue to be in our thoughts.

Covid Update March 20th

Students in the IB program grade 11 and 12 are isolating at home due to exposure to two separate positive cases. As a result of those exposures, we also have a number of teachers who are isolating at home. They will continue to deliver online lessons according to our current bell schedule throughout this week.

Sunday March 21st, we welcome back to campus our grade 9 Cohort B students from their isolation at home.

There are rumors of Senior Proms being organized by students at other schools. AISE does not condone attendance at any such event, particularly as numbers are rising in our community. We hope that parents will ensure our students do not attend any large event which would put the rest of our community at risk.

Ministry Exams fro Grades 10 and 11 on Thursday March 11th - Uniforms required

Students are permitted to leave as soon as they have completed the exam and are not expected to need the full time scheduled

Grade 9 is Quarantined

from Tuesday March 9th until Saturday March 20th and may not come to campus. Grade 9 students will have zoom lessons with their teachers according to our regular schedule and will remain off campus until March 20th.

  • Cohort B will be able to resume classes on Sunday March 21st.

  • Cohort A will be able to resume classes on Sunday March 28th.

Should anyone in grade 9 begin to show symptoms, please report these immediately to our clinic.

There are no physical or virtual HS classes scheduled for Sunday March 7th ONLY the grade 9 Arabic exams and G12 IB mock exams are on campus. Last Thursday we had online classes to replace tomorrow's classes. No students in HS are having classes tomorrow, if they are not writing an exam on Sunday, they should be home working on long term assignments from their teachers or studying for their upcoming Arabic exams.

Due to Ministry Exams, the return of all HS students in Cohort B is postponed one day to Monday March 8th.

Sunday March 7th will be a “dig in day” for grades 10, 11 and 12 American Diploma students with no scheduled zoom classes with their teachers as teachers will be invigilating both the Ministry Exams and the IB Mock exams. Thursday March 4th will be an online attendance day for all students following our regular bell schedule to replace the Cohort B Sunday that will be lost to the Ministry exam.

NOTE: ON March 4th, Y2 IB Chemistry and Y2 IB Business will attend their special sessions on campus but everyone else will attend online from home.

Upcoming Ministry Exams

All grade 9 students from Cohort A, Cohort B, and ASU, will need to be present on campus on March 7th for their Ministry exam*

Grade 9 Ministry exams will take place for AIS students in the gymnasium on Sunday March 7th from 9am-10:30am. For the safety of everyone on campus, these multiple cohorts cannot mix with the rest of campus which means grade 9 students may not take the bus that morning. All grade 9 students will need to be dropped off (IN UNIFORM) on campus between 8:30am and 8:45 and picked up by 10:45am. There will be designated waiting areas near the gym for each cohort and social distancing and proper mask wearing is expected.

*Students with "100% Exempt" status do not have to write the exam.

For students in grades 10 and 11:

Cohort B will have the Arabic exam on March 8th, 9th and 10th during their classes. Grade 10 students who should have Arabic on Sunday March 7th, will write the Social Studies part of their exam on Thursday March 11th at 8:00am on the 3rd floor (1 hour).

Cohort C will write the Arabic exam between March 7th and 10th after classes on the days designated by their teachers

Cohorts A and E will write it on March 11th according to the table above.

A Gradual Return to Onsite Learning Begins February 21st

Welcoming Students Back!

On Sunday February 21st, the high school will welcome back to campus the students from the IB program and Cohort B of Grade 9 (from the American Diploma program). This is part of a phased return that prioritizes the health and safety of all AISE community members and focuses on the learning needs of High School students.

New Bell Schedule

We will be implementing a new bell schedule which will remain our schedule from now through the end of the school year. It was developed based on feedback from parents, students and teachers. ALL students in Cohort A and B follow this schedule.

You will see some significant differences on the new schedule:

  • Students are not required to attend until 8:20 but teachers will be available in their rooms from 7:45 to 8:15 for “office hours”. Students will not be allowed to congregate in hallways but may visit teachers for academic questions or study in their first period classroom.

  • We will not have scheduled Connections classes however teachers will continue to reach out to their Connections groups in the 2:00-3:00pm slot on a rotating basis.

  • Students do not have a scheduled lunch. There will be three opportunities for students to buy snacks during the day from the hallway vendors and once again before they get on the bus/exit campus.

  • The time from 1:15-2:00pm is set aside for a teacher lunch/break

  • From 2:00-3:00pm teachers will connect with the “at home cohort” and their Connections students.

  • Dig in Days will be structured to provide targeted interventions for struggling students or groups. This may include inviting specific groups to campus (following very strict protocols to avoid cross contamination of cohorts) or more simply having additional online contact.

We will continue to use the new bell schedule above during Ramadan, with the only change that affects students being the length of contact time in the afternoon for the at home cohort (reduced from 60min to 40min on each of the three days for the duration of Ramadan).

Mandatory Attendance

Attendance at the start of each period is mandatory for all students (both cohorts). Students will check in at the start of class and teachers will take attendance, clarify instructions and/or go over the tasks for the day. The at home cohort will then go off and work independently until 2pm when they will be able to check back in with teachers. For the next two weeks as American Diploma students in grades 10-12 are still at home, teachers will be holding synchronous classes according to the bell schedule above, beginning with the same concept of balancing a check in with independent work but also working with small groups from the class as needed throughout the 65 minutes.

Continued Health and Safety for Everyone!

We have many families in our community that have been affected by Covid-19 and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to them. As a community we must work together to prevent any further spread of this terrible virus. Please know that AISE health and safety protocols will be strictly enforced and this includes but is not limited to:

  • everyone wearing masks at all times on campus,

  • everyone following concepts of social distancing,

  • mandatory reporting of contact with suspected Covid cases,

  • full cooperation with contact tracing.

If we work together, we can continue to limit transmission on campus which means, we get to stay on campus.

Please reach out if you have any questions regarding the details in this reopening plan.

Sincerely,

Your Leadership Team

A Reminder of our Health and Safety Violations Policy

A health and safety violation will be documented when a student is given a referral for not following the health and safety expectations at AIS. This includes but is not limited to,

  • Not wearing a mask on campus.

  • Wearing a mask in an incorrect manner on campus ( Ex: not over the nose)

  • Not following lunchtime procedures. (Ex: Congregating in a prohibited area, not sitting and eating in a socially distant spot)

  • Not following health and safety protocol in the classroom. (Ex: Not sitting at the correct desk or spot designated by the teacher refusing to complete end of class procedures)

  • Refusing to be socially distant in the hallway. (Ex: hugging, hanging on to, or any other form of physical contact while on campus.)

  • Students mixing cohorts will be required to wear an additional face mask while on campus

Consequences:

First Violation: Verbal warning and PowerSchool Entry

Second Violation: PowerSchool Entry and Parent Communication

Third Violation: One-week campus exclusion. (This will be applied to the next week that the student’s cohort is on campus)

Fourth Violation: The student case goes to a behavior review committee. The committee will review the case for a possible long-term campus exclusion.

ONLINE Learning Begins January 10th

This is the same schedule we used in September. All parents and students were sent an email with details of this schedule. Thursdays will be "Dig In Days" except for IB students who will have three 40 minute HL classes.

Attendance is mandatory for these synchronous classes. After January 10th when the whole connections group meets, teachers will set meetings with specific connections students for each day.

Closing Grade 12 for 14 days

In order to isolate a large number of highly suspected Covid-19 cases and in response to 3 positive cases in grade 12, all grade 12 students will study online beginning Monday November 9th. Please see the email from Ms. Johnston for more details.

Social Enterprise Opportunity

If you are having trouble with the QR code, please try this link:

The deadline for registration is Thursday November 5th at 11:50 pm. Payment can be made on campus to Mr. Dinnawi who will give you a receipt from the Social Enterprise Academy.

End of Term Communication: 20 October 2020

Dear Parents and Students;

Term 1 is quickly drawing to a close. Term 2 will begin on November 1st with Cohort B onsite. Please note that November 5th we will have virtual Parent-Teacher conferences (campus closed) and you will receive a sign up process on November 1st.

Thank you for all of your feedback on your experiences in Term 1. Below, you will see analysis of the feedback and some of the key changes that will happen for Term 2 as a result. Parents wishing to register a Learning Option change, should fill in the form at the end of this letter.

There were 93 Parents and 135 students (primarily in grades 9 and 12) who responded to the survey with an even balance between Cohort A and Cohort B, while 10% of the respondents were from Cohort E.

One common theme in the responses was the need for a review of student workload and this was particularly strong amongst grade 9 respondents. As a result, we have established standard protocols with teachers for the second term regarding posting work and due dates:

  1. The guideline for the amount of online work for students continues to be 85 min per class day. Lesson instruction should be 10-20 minute with up to an hour of time for students to apply their learning.

  2. At a minimum, all instructions and applications for the day are to be posted by 8am each day. Preferably, all learning and applications for the week would be posted by 8am on Sunday. For the sake of time management, students need to know everything they need to do and plan their work time around those tasks.

  3. All due dates will be either 10 pm on the class day or the start of the next class.

  4. No work will be assigned to be due on weekends, holidays, or Dig In Days.

  5. Long term projects will be broken down into tasks with reasonable interim deadlines or progress checks and will not be due the day after a holiday.

  6. A check-in attendance system for grade 9 students is being created to ensure they are getting up each day and managing their work time.

A second common theme was the need to increase support for students when their cohort is online. We explored a schedule change to a more “balanced day” where the onsite cohort would leave early which would allow more time for the online cohort to connect with the teachers during school hours. This option did not gain a majority of support. The idea of moving lunch to the end of the day as another way of achieving balance made for very difficult working schedules for teachers. As a result, there will be no major change to our Hybrid Schedule in Term 2.

  1. We will add a 10 minute passing and snack purchasing time before Connections. Both Connections and Lunch will be slightly shorter.

  2. We have hired a full time Math Support TA who will be a resource to online students in Term 2 (8am-12pm and 4pm-7pm) on school days. He will also have weekly contact with the Cohort E students regarding math progress. You will receive his contact information at the start of the term.

  3. AISE has purchased more bandwidth and we will begin to explore how students at home might be able to access some classrooms more synchronously.

If parents want to request a change of learning option for term 2, online to hybrid or the reverse, please complete this FORM by October 22nd. We cannot guarantee placement in a specific cohort due to limitations on physical classroom sizes but we will do our best to accommodate requests received by the deadline.

As always, if you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to someone on the HS Leadership team.

Special dates coming for Term 2

  • School is closed for October Break from October 25th through October 29th. Please note there will be no Halloween activities in the High School.

  • We begin Term 2 on November 1st with Cohort B.

  • November 5th will be Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences. The campus is closed to students and parents that day with a sign up method for appointments to be communicated to parents soon.

  • Sunday November 8th is a dig In day for students with teachers connecting with the Cohort E students only. Thursday November 12th we will have a four block schedule for Subjects 1-4 to make up for the Sunday dig in day.

  • Thursday November 19th will be a dig in day however all students with any D's or F's will be required to come to school from 9-11am and meet with their teachers.

  • Thursday November 26th is a scheduled school holiday and there will not be any contact with teachers.

  • Thursday Dec 3rd is a Professional Development Day and there will not be any online contact with teachers.

  • Sunday Dec 6th is a dig In day for students with teachers connecting with the Cohort E students only. Thursday Dec 10th we will have a four block schedule for Subjects 1-4 to make up for the dig in Day.

  • Thursday Dec 17th will be a regular cohort B day not as previously announced.

  • The Winter Break begins on Wednesday December 23rd

Announcements: 24.09.20

Goodbye to Ms. Ghada

Today was Ms. Ghada Anis' final day at AISE after three years of service to our community in the high school office. We wish her well in her future endeavors and remind parents to use the HS office email for all communication.

Cohort B

We are really looking forward to seeing you on campus starting Sunday Sept 27th. Please read the letter sent by email today.

Early Dismissal Thursday October 1st

Thursday October 1 will be an early dismissal day. Students who come to school on Thursday will be with their Connections teacher from 8am until 11am. During that time they will be working on school work like a “dig in day” but may make 1 to 1 appointments to meet with their subject teachers. The high school will be dismissed at 11am. Students unable to leave at that time will work in the MIC until the regular dismissal of the whole school.

Cohort A, C, & D

Thank you Cohort A, C and D for a great 1st week on campus here is a video message for you:

Philosophical Foundation

We have organized our reopening plan around three models and have structured the plan to ensure a smooth transition from one model to the other:

  • Hybrid (50/50: students attending in alternating weeks)

  • 100% online

  • Face-to-face

A key priority in all of the models is building relationships with students to encourage motivation and social-emotional growth. This means a repurposing of the previous advisory program to ensure each student has a mentor-teacher who connects with them daily and focuses with the student on his or her academic progress and social emotional wellbeing.

Last year, the high school at AIS Main began to reframe our learning culture with an emphasis on five key areas:

The Learning Culture work continues and is foundational to each of the three models in the reopening plan.

Social Emotional Well-Being

Relationships are foundational for learning. Even in remote environments, students must feel connected to, cared for, and inspired by their teacher and peers. Fostering positive student-teacher, student-student relationships and establishing remote classroom communities that create a sense of belonging for all is critical for students’ overall well being and academic success. Each student is registered in a daily Connections class with an advisor who will be his or her mentor-teacher.

Power Standards

All of our courses are aligned to internationally recognized standards and we have begun the process of identifying 10-12 “power Standards” for each course. Power standards are priority standards that have been chosen for their enduring value. They represent the essential knowledge and skills we want students to master. Each course also has numerous “supporting standards” that support the understanding of the power standards and teachers will use some of those to help students master the power standards.

Engagement

Student engagement is essential. Online learning has reinforced our beliefs in student-driven learning, developing an engaging learning environment through real-world teaching and learning, encouraging the students to demonstrate authentic learning through authentic real-world engagement and planning meaningful activities and assessments.

Feedback and Assessment

Feedback should be the most significant part of assessment as it is formative and critical to deep learning. We believe it should occur as a cycle where feedback is given, and applied to new learning or revisions and given again. We also believe in multiple forms and sources of feedback with teachers, peers, and authentic audiences participating in the feedback process. Summative assessment should be authentic, with students demonstrating their mastery of skills and understanding of concepts. Assessment is no longer about students showing what they know but also “how and why” they know it. Teachers will design meaningful applications and demonstrations of learning that provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning (what they know) and defend its authenticity through a metacognitive process (how and why).

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

We continue to focus on developing the AISE Portrait of a Graduate traits based on the IB Learner Profile traits and incorporating IB based approaches to Learning (ATL). This year we will be using a specific rubric for assessing and reporting student growth in three key areas:

  1. Commitment to Learning: Engages in acquiring knowledge and skills (Knowledgeable), through asking questions (Inquiry) and stretching personal limits (Risk Taking). Engages in Reflection (Reflective) as well as Critical and Creative thinking (Thinker).

  2. Citizenship and Integrity: Demonstrates academic and personal Integrity (Principled) at all times. Models personal and social responsibility along with empathy for others (Caring). Embodies a Balanced approach to school and life.

  3. Collaboration and Respect: Communicates respectfully with all individuals (Communicator) demonstrating an understanding of and acceptance of individual differences (Open-Minded). Respects the learning culture through demonstrating positive behavior and self management (polite, present, punctual, prepared and participating).

100% Online Reopening Plan

Due to the Ministry Decree, we will delay our originally planned Hybrid start and begin school 100% online on Sept 1st.

(Please Note: Student cohorts will be visible in powerschool late in the day on Sunday August 23rd. If there are any errors, such as siblings not being in the same cohort, please email ejohnston@aisegypt.com)

First Week: Sept 1 to Sept 3

In the first week of online learning, our goal is making connections between students and teachers. Students will be introduced to their teachers, the google classrooms and protocols for online learning success. Students are expected to attend the synchronous sessions as per the schedule below:

Second Week: Sept 6 to Sept 10

In the second week, students will work on their virtual lessons asynchronously and have the opportunity to connect with their teachers according to the schedule below:

Third Week: Sept 13 to Sept 17

The third week begins with students continuing with the "online learning/access to teachers" schedule and starts the staggered Hybrid Learning phase:

AND . . .

Hybrid Learning begins!

Opening Logistics

General Safety Guidelines

  • All staff and students will be required to wear masks at all times (covering nose and mouth) and follow social distancing guidelines, on campus, in the classroom and on the bus.

  • Students in PE, Band, Choir and English Language Development courses will be required to provide their own face shield in addition to their mask and wear one or the other as directed by their teachers for specific instructional situations.

  • The PE curriculum has been adjusted to focus on personal fitness, health education and individual sport skills. Contact sports will not be allowed in P.E. classes. Whenever possible, the P.E. classes will be held outdoors.

  • Classrooms and common areas will be disinfected frequently.

  • Frequent hand-washing will be required of all students and staff.

  • Arrival, breaks during the day, and dismissals will be staggered to prevent large groups from gathering. Hallways will have directionality markers that must be followed. Students will wait in distanced single file lines outside the classroom and enter when invited by the teacher.

  • Students will arrive straight to class as there will be no morning lines at the field. Teachers will be in their first period classrooms by 7:45am to receive students. Teachers without a first period class will be assigned supervision duties from 7:45am-8:00am.

  • There will be no after-school activities, community events or large assemblies.

  • No lockers will be available during Hybrid learning.

Continuous Learning Model

To have learning accessible by all students, a continuous learning format is the HS instructional model for the year. Every class will have an online instructional component and applications that can occur either online or onsite. The focus of assessment will be on student application of learning both online and onsite.

Grading and Reporting Changes

The grade book will be divided into three strands:

  • Application of Learning

  • Authentic Assessments

  • ATL/POG (Rubric not averaged into the academic achievement grade)

American Diploma Grade Weighting

The calculation of the year grade will be as follows:

85% Continuous Learning

  • A continuous grade of the entire year

  • American Diploma: 50% Application and 50% Authentic Assessment

15% Culminating Authentic Assessment

  • This assessment may take a variety of forms depending on curriculum area and teacher discretion.

IB Diploma Grade Weighting

The calculation of the year grade will be as follows:

85% Continuous Learning

  • A continuous grade of the entire year

  • IB Diploma: 30% Application and 70% Authentic Assessment

15% Culminating Authentic Assessment

  • This grade will be derived from the Mock Exams

Model in Practice

  • The students will be divided into two Cohorts (A & B) schoolwide so that families are onsite in the same week

  • Cohort A attends school in Week A and completes online work in Week B

  • Cohort B completes online work in Week A and attends school in Week B

  • IB attends every day (see special rules for certificate students)

  • Teachers will flip the classroom with all resources uploaded on Google Classroom to guide the students. Teachers will use the continuous learning model to plan applications (both virtual and onsite) that dig deeper into conceptual learning of the power standards and employ a variety of strategies that deepen understanding such as problem-solving, concept mapping, case analysis, simulations, designing, socratic seminars, group discussions, etc.

    • The onsite cohort will have some time to complete some of the online portion of the material at the start of every class (some things will need to have been done/prepared as homework) after which the class will engage in practice, application, discussion, deepening of conceptual understanding, formative assessment and review/reflection activities.

    • The at home cohort will also complete the online portion of the material and engage in virtual application activities to deepen their understanding of the material.

Special Notes for IB Students

IB students will attend in both cohorts as they are smaller classes, larger classes would be accommodated either in a larger space or divided into two spaces on campus.

  • IB certificate students will attend their full schedule (IB classes & AD classes) with their assigned cohort and will attend their IB classes with the alternate cohort (they are not to attend their AD classes with the alternate cohort). This means that certificate students may arrive at school for their IB classes during the alternate week and either go to the library (with a pass from the office) for self-study or they may return home (sign out in the office).

  • If an IB student has extenuating circumstances that might prevent him or her from attending every day, he or she must make an appointment to discuss the issue with Ms. Issa and Ms. Gendy before Sept 6.

Calendar Planning

The year will be divided into 9 x four week long modules. There will be 2 modules in each of term 1 and term 2, meaning 4 modules in Semester 1 . Should Hybrid continue after the Winter Break, there will be 5 modules in semester 2.

Cohorts

Cohorts have been organized by students listed at the same address. Great care has been taken to ensure siblings will attend in the same cohort. These cohorts will become visible on Powerschool late in the day on Sunday August 23rd. If there is a mistake in the assigning of your child to his or her sibling cohort, please email ejohnston@aisegypt.com as soon as possible.

Cohort A - Half of the American Diploma Students grades 9 - 12 (attend alternate weeks)

Cohort B - Half of the American Diploma Students grades 9 - 12 (attend alternate weeks)

Cohort C - All Grade 11 International Baccalaureate Students (attend every week)

Cohort D - All Grade 12 International Baccalaureate Students (attend every week)

Staggered Start

We begin the hybrid year with the whole high school completing an online health and safety orientation before being admitted to campus. Our staggered start prioritizes grade 9 onsite orientation and the IB program for the first three days. Grade 10 and the American Diploma classes in grades 11/12 would be continue to be connected online for those first three days and begin their cohort rotations on Sunday September 20th.

Hybrid Bell Schedule

There will be a five day (Sunday to Thursday) schedule with no period rotations:

Shifting Delivery Models

If moving to a Face to Face model with 100% onsite, we would continue this schedule until an appropriate shift day was determined with confidence that we would not be returning to Online. As long as 100% online is possible, we will maintain this schedule for any onsite learning.

If required to go to 100% online at anytime, we would have the following schedule of four instructional days in a week and one dig in day. The dig in day will follow our current calendar of "off" days and will be announced in advance of each week. Students in IBHL classes will have 3 x 40 minute periods on the dig in days if we are online.

Student Attendance and Commitment to Learning

Students are expected to attend the onsite classes along with their cohort. They may not switch cohorts nor attempt to make up onsite classes in the alternate cohort’s week. The Deans at the various grade levels will monitor student attendance closely and have regular conversations with students who are showing a pattern of non-attendance. Inconsistent commitment to attendance may result in the student being asked to move to one of the online options for the next term. Please note:

  • Grades assigned on the new POG/ATL rubric from onsite classwork cannot be made up regardless of the reason for absence.

  • Technology provides opportunities for students not in attendance to submit work outside of class time. All students are therefore required to submit work by its due date regardless of being in attendance. Unless specified by the teacher, 10pm is the deadline for any day that something is due.

  • For work ill-suited to electronic submission (e.g., large-scale projects requiring a physical visual, group presentations, etc.), a PICTURE must be submitted and the due date for submission would be the next day in attendance provided the student has made arrangements prior to the original deadline with the course teacher .

  • Students need to connect with their teachers if they are unable to complete their work on time (within 24 hours). It is at the discretion of the teacher to allow an extension. All late work without teacher approval will receive a zero.

Optional Online-Only Program

We have two options for families not comfortable with on campus learning.

  1. We will offer a “study along” plan where families can choose for a specific term that their child “never” attends the application and practice sessions on campus. They will miss out on experiences that deepen the learning in the onsite week but would complete all application activities assigned by the teacher. Those students would not have an opportunity to earn many grades in the ATL/POG rubric however these grades are going to be reported separately on the final report and not “averaged in” with the academic achievement grades. Once the deadline for starting this option has passed (August 27th for Term 1), students cannot opt in or out until the end of Term 1.

  2. We will also offer a Project Based structured learning experience beginning in Term 2. Students opting for a PBL structure would complete a reduced number of assignments and learning events required by core course teachers combined with a transdisciplinary project, one per term, based on a Humanities/Electives model and a STEM/Electives model. The student’s work on these projects would be monitored and assessed by the online learning coordinator with grades being assigned to the appropriate subject courses. Once the deadline for starting this option has passed, students cannot opt in or out until the end of each term.

Students will need to complete this google form with their learning option (100% Online or 50% Hybrid Onsite) intention by noon on Sept 6th.
