Participation in a practicum course is an opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in their chosen career field. Please review the following requirements carefully:
Application Process:
Students must apply to be considered for a practicum course. After submitting the application, students will complete the required steps in the Canvas course, including uploading a resume, completing a digital interview, and providing references.Interview Requirement:
Students may be asked to participate in a face-to-face interview as part of the selection process.Eligibility:
Practicum courses are open to AISD 12th grade seniors who are at least 16 years old and have completed the required prerequisite courses in their career pathway.Schedule:
Practicum classes are double-blocked, meaning students spend the majority of the learning with their work based experiences. Most students are at their practicum site nearly every class period, with about one class period every two weeks spent in the classroomSupervision and Evaluation:
Practicum supervisors (worksite mentors) complete a brief evaluation form each six weeks, which is included as part of the student’s grade.Class Assignments:
In addition to their internship, students complete practicum-related assignments each six weeks, provided by their AISD Practicum InstructorTransportation:
Practicum students must have reliable transportation to and from their worksite. Transportation is not provided by the district.Experiences - Paid vs Unpaid:
Practicum experiences may be paid or unpaid, depending on the placement and industry partner.Background Checks and Screenings:
Some practicum placements may require background checks, drug screenings, or additional documentation before beginning the internship. Any associated costs for these requirements may be the responsibility of the student or family.
