I have always adored fantasy settings and how its style across all presentations is not limited to one type of design. My most beloved styles of it have been medieval, futuristic, and grandiose. Larger buildings with intricate details intrigue me to no end and that's exactly what I aim to build. Putting these two together, I create structures with interesting shapes that don't necessarily fall under the building styles of the twenty-first century. I tend to lean towards stone and wood buildings just because both of those materials are simplistic until you look closer to see the etchings inside. Bricks have always been an eye-catcher for me simply because of how the patterns can be arranged to create either a crowded or barren texture. I then implement wooden highlights to these stone buildings to break up its monotonous color. From both afar and up close, these inclusions bring detail to my projects through the grain and the overall color shift. I use light and dark tones to both make a building look appealing while also separating the multiple sections and letting some structures pop out. Using the shine of metal helps tie together both bright and dark areas since the metal creates an ombré effect between the two tones when light shines on it. Overall, my range in materials is meant to create intricacy. However, that's not my only method. I start all my builds by first sketching—large shapes as an outline, then prominent details, and lastly, small details that help bring it to life. I'm always looking for ways to keep a good balance of negative and positive space so as to not overcrowd the build but still keep it interesting to look at. In the end, I create dynamic pieces through careful consideration through my structural, material, and composition decisions. My roots are in black and white graphite drawings and I’m satisfied with how I have improved that over the years. I still barely touch any physical 3D mediums, but the sculpture I molded from polymer clay turned out well. I’m not opposed to trying out new art styles or methods, but I put a lot of time and effort into my architectural skill set and I hope to continue this as I go into college.
