Junior Portfolios
AP (Advanced Placement) Studio Art is a program administered by the College Board to provide highly motivated high school students with an opportunity to earn college credit in art with a focus in Drawing or 2D Art & Design. Students will submit a portfolio to the College Board with work that exemplifies their personal artistic voice and conceptual interests. The portfolio includes five selected works (demonstrating drawing and/or design skills as well as the synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas) and 15 sustained investigation images (demonstrating in-depth exploration of a singular visual theme). There is also a two-part written statement that accompanies the portfolio. Students can work with any materials, processes, and ideas. Drawing (analog and digital), painting, printmaking, and mixed media work are among the possibilities for submission. Still images from videos or film are accepted. Composite images may be submitted. As this is a challenging course, students in this should expect to spend 4-8 hours per week outside of class time finishing their work. The course will culminate with the creation of individual portfolio websites as well as a gallery exhibition.
