SERIES: Kashmir Reclaimed: Samovar te Khos
This body of work is an exploration of not only my skills as an artist but of my own Kashmiri Hindu and Indian identity. Some pieces serve to showcase my pride and the beauty of my cultural heritage, the deep history of its own art and music, and they reflect how important that culture is as a part of my identity. Other pieces serve as a more specific exploration of my experience as a Kashmiri Hindu Pandit, a member of a community which has faced multiple genocides and an exodus that has scattered and fragmented my community all over the world. It is a struggle to fight against the loss of cultural practices, language, and rituals; but the effort remains strong, as does the hope of some day being able to call Kashmir our home once again.
