SERIES: Preservation

I am interested in exploring how I actively try to preserve my Mexican culture. After I realized I began to lose my fluidity in the Spanish language, and noticed my palette adjusting to American food, I put in an effort to preserve what I’ve learnt and grew up with. In this body of work, I explore a variety of media. The oil painting shows my journey of migration, and the mixed media works are depictions of food and of family members integrated with collages, using handwritten family recipes dating back to my great grandparents’ generation (early 1900’s).
