Artist Statement

In my portfolio, I explore themes of cultural identity & displacement, finding parallels between my experience moving through multiple states & my parents' immigration from Korea. I explore the question "How has my parents' journey impacted our lives?" & "How do we, as a family, maintain connection to our Korean heritage while in the US?" My motivation stems from challenges I faced during my recent move from Chicago to Florida & a desire to understand the displacement my parents experienced. This journey has let me welcome my roots as a Korean-American finding balance in my transient life.
