In these black and white photos, I'm looking at what it means to be human, especially how we connect with each other and the times we feel alone. You see this in pictures of people interacting, like a handshake, but also in shots of single people in their own space. I'm trying to show the difference between just being by yourself and actually feeling lonely, which can happen even when you're around people.
In the absence of color, I notice the contrasts in each picture, which helps bring out the narratives. Whether it's the hard work you can see in someone's hands or the joy of kids playing, black and white makes those feelings stronger. The different ways I frame the photos also show how our surroundings can make us feel more connected or more isolated. I hope these images inspire viewers to consider the deeper meanings in our everyday lives and the important difference between being alone and feeling lonely.
