It's not just the new building which is exciting our school community... we have some major developments underway in the existing school site too! From new playgrounds to additional staff-parking, adventure golf courses and more... take a look below at all the brilliant upgrades that have taken place in recent years, or are taking place over the coming months...
1) New CCTV
To provide full coverage of our site, new High Definition CCTV has been installed throughout our site, with enhanced management systems to record and store up to two months of footage! With two control points, one being in the main office, this enables staff to monitor the grounds and enable only authorised visitors to enter the site. It also acts as a deterrent to those who would try to access our grounds out of hours. Additional CCTV has also been installed on our field, covering our second entrance for additional security.
2) New fencing
New fencing is being installed around the main building, to enable pupils to move freely around the site and significantly reduces the risk of a child being able to access the staff car park or main gate area unaccompanied.
3) New paths
New concrete paths are being laid adjacent to the north side of the building.
4) New Wireless infrastructure
RM have begun upgrading our managed wireless infrastructure. New cabling throughout the school, a fibre-optic connection to our two external buildings, additional transmitters on the outside of our building (to reach our outdoor areas such as the lower woodland and EYFS playground) and additional Access Points across the academy. This will significantly improve our staff and children's access to the Internet.
5) New carpets and flooring
Work has begun on a rolling plan to remove all old floor tiles and replace with modern flooring. Our office areas are also having new carpets laid to provide a cleaner, fresher welcome to our academy.
6) New alarm systems
A new fire alarm panel is being installed this summer, providing a more modern system for detecting fires and alerting occupants.
7) Classroom decoration
Our site manager is busy decorating classrooms with our new colour-schemes to provide even more pupils with a fresh, engaging and modern looking classroom. The look will mirror what we have in our new-build! This will take most of the academic year (2019/20) but will bring new life to some of our older-looking classrooms in no time at all!
8) RM Unify
We are busy migrating our pupils to the RM Unify cloud-based experience. This may mean pupils temporarily lose access to their accounts during the holidays, but it will mean that all children will have securer access to their online accounts from September. In addition, RM Unify provides single-sign-on access to a range of new apps and features. Watch this space for more info in September!
August 2018 saw the start of our development of the new south-facing playground. Resurfacing of the old path between KS1/KS2 playgrounds will enable children to run-around safely without fear of tripping over paving slab edges. The new tarmac surface and additional depth will fully enable children to play around three sides of the school building, as opposed to the previous two. Take a look at the progress so far, as well as our lovely new canopy (joining the old and new school sites!)
This additional space is going to be great for children who like to play games, without worrying about footballs flying at them!
The final tarmac layer being laid:
In order to connect utilities to our new classrooms, pipework has needed to be laid this summer. In the process, our paving slabs on the north-side of the school have been relaid to remove any inconsistencies in their level.
Part of our original plans for the new Yr5/6 classrooms was the inclusion of additional staff parking. This process began during the summer-break and will be completed mid-September.
Also, the foundations for our temporary year six demountable classroom have been dug out, on the site previously used for the caretaker's shed (which, along with other facilities, will eventually be relocated). You can see more about this project on the 'New Build' pages...
Our EYFS setting has had a major update this Spring (2018) with new flooring, furniture and resources. Take a look at the difference between how it looked before and after!
Our children are loving their new Reading Retreat, Small World area and curved tables. Thank you to our WPSA for contributing to the overall cost of our recent renovation by AET...
