The AET Science Curriculum
The AET science curriculum is built from the content of the KS3 National Curriculum for Science and the GCSE Specification for Science, supplemented by some additional content beyond the NC/specification chosen for its ultimate purpose.
This content is sequenced to create a deliberate 5 year scientific knowledge journey that builds on children’s prior scientific learning from KS2 and ultimately prepares them for lifelong use of scientific knowledge, to succeed in onward scientific study and to obtain the GCSE Science qualification.
The knowledge of the curriculum is organised into the following strands, each of which is a key scientific idea that threads through the curriculum. The strands have been chosen to reflect big ideas of scientific knowledge that will be revisited, developed and extended throughout students’ scientific education.
Substantive Knowledge:
Organisms
Ecosystems
Genes
Matter
Reactions
Earth
Forces
Electromagnets
Energy
Waves
Disciplinary Knowledge
