In our first IB Unit about families, we focus in on the following concepts:
In IB, we center a lot of our units and interactions with one another around 10 Learner Profile attributes. These are categories of ways we can engage with ideas and people to deepen our growth as IB Learners.
These 10 attributes are:
Inquirers: Nurture curiosity, develop skills for independent and collaborative research, and sustain a lifelong love of learning.
Knowledgeable: Develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across local and global disciplines.
Thinkers: Apply critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and take responsible action on complex problems.
Communicators: Express themselves confidently and creatively in multiple languages and ways, collaborating effectively.
Principled: Act with integrity, honesty, fairness, and deep respect for individuals and communities.
Open-minded: Appreciate their own culture and personal history while critically seeking and evaluating other perspectives.
Caring: Show empathy, compassion, and respect, committing to positive service and action.
Risk-takers (Courageous): Approach unfamiliar uncertainty with courage, resilience, resourcefulness, and independence of spirit.

In our first IB Unit about families, we focus in on the following attribute:
The IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) are a set of practical "learning how to learn" skills. Instead of focusing only on memorizing facts, ATL helps students build lifelong habits in thinking, communicating, interacting with others, organizing themselves, and finding information.
The Five Core ATL Skill Categories
Thinking Skills: Learning how to analyze problems, create original ideas, and reflect on how they solve challenges.
Communication Skills: Expressing thoughts clearly through speaking, writing, and active listening.
Social Skills: Working well in teams, respecting diverse views, and resolving conflicts peacefully.
Self-Management Skills: Managing time, staying organized, keeping motivated, and showing resilience when things get tough.
Research Skills: Finding information wisely, checking if sources are true, and using data responsibly.
Why ATL Matters for Your Child?
Focus on Process: Shifts the goal from "What did you get on the test?" to "How did you figure this out?"
Real-World Ready: Prepares children for future jobs and everyday life by teaching adaptability and problem-solving.
Independence: Builds self-regulated learners who know how to set goals and fix mistakes on their own.
