On the morning of January 4, 2025, Team Katipunan arrived in Barangay Katipunan, marking the start of our journey to serve and learn from the community. Upon arrival, we were introduced to our temporary home—the Isolation Facility beside the Barangay Hall—where we would stay throughout our immersion.
We received a warm welcome from Barangay Captain Hon. Raymond D. Heres, who expressed his support for our initiatives. Shortly after, we held our first official meeting with our preceptor, Dr. Gabby R. Batuigas, the Municipal Health Officer of R.T. Lim.
We were also welcomed by the CEO of RT Lim Hospital Co. and we had the opportunity to tour the said hospital, gaining a deeper understanding of the local healthcare system.
On the morning of January 6, 2025, we attended the Flag Ceremony at the Municipal Hall of R.T. Lim, as part of our engagement with the local government. During the event, our preceptor formally introduced us to the entire municipal staff.
Following this, we, together with our preceptor, had the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the Municipal Mayor of R.T. Lim, Engr. Michael A. Piodena. This meeting allowed us to express our commitment to the health initiatives in Barangay Katipunan and discuss how our efforts align with the municipality’s health programs.
Afterward, we had our first meeting with the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) of Barangay Katipunan. This introduction was important to have a collaborative relationship with the local health team, as the BHWs play a crucial role in community-based healthcare. Their insights and experience will guide us in understanding the barangay’s health challenges and ensuring that our interventions are aligned with the community’s needs.
On January 8, 2025, KAHIMSOG KABASKUG KATIPUNAN started the house-to-house survey to establish rapport with the community and gain a deeper understanding of the health challenges faced by its residents. With 11 puroks and 741 households, early start of the survey was important to ensure comprehensive data collection, targeting at least 80% of households for primary data.
The team visited homes across Puroks Malipayon, Daisy, Orchids, Rose, Santan, Sunflower, Violeta, Bagong Lipunan, Bagong Silang, and San Francisco, engaging with families and gathering crucial information. This groundwork serves as the foundation for identifying key health concerns and shaping evidence-based interventions tailored to the specific needs of Barangay Katipunan.
