As a Racer who has invited your parents to join you on the field for this Parent Vision Trip, we want this to be your trip and a chance for you to lead your parents. This will be a time to bless your parents, share stories, and let them experience life overseas with you. Below are some of the ways that we would like for you to lead. This list is to help you begin to get a feel and understanding for what to expect on your upcoming PVT. Please feel free to email me with any questions you my have. My email address is in the red box at the bottom of the page.
As PVT Racers, you will be in charge of welcoming your parents. You are free to be as creative as you would like. Some teams do skits, a welcome tunnel, make signs, etc. Be brainstorming this with your PVT teammates so that you will have time to get things organized when you arrive. Feel free to contact the PVT Coordinator (before the money is spent) to discuss possible reimbursement for any supplies you will need for this.
Parents love to hear from Racers, so throughout the week there will be opportunities to share a testimony - usually a short 5 minute one - of what the Lord is doing in your life. This is great practice for when you return to the States and a time to invite your parents into this part of your story. Please note that this is not your full testimony. This needs to be more of what God has been doing in your life the last few months while you have been on the Race.
As PVT Racers, you will be responsible for planning the worship times throughout the week. You will need to decide amongst yourselves who will be leading, what songs will be sung, and who will be sharing testimonies or teaching at each worship session. Depending on the location, these worship times will fall at different points during the day. We try to have a worship session 4-5 days during the week. This worship time can be what you want it to be. This is your opporutnity to provide your parents with a glimpse into what worship can look like on the field. Some teams have chosen to incorporate communion, art, foot washings, and other forms of worship into this time. The last worship time together is an especially good time to add something special like that. Feel free to make it what you want.
Based on feedback from previous trips, here are some pointers:
Include one hymn or widely known worship song that your parents may know.
Keep worship to 3-4 songs per night (unless the Spirit is leading for more).
As Racers, you will also be responsible for the teaching that follows music each night. Some topics that have been taught on before are feedback (don't give it, just explain it), listening prayer, or whatever the Spirit leads you to teach.
