Known as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas,” the Philippines is a vibrant island nation rich in history, beauty, and heart. With over 7,000 islands, it offers breathtaking landscapes—from white-sand beaches and lush jungles to bustling city centers alive with energy and color. Yet beyond its scenery, the true beauty of the Philippines is found in its people—joyful, resilient, and deeply relational. Family and community are at the center of life here, and generosity flows naturally from hearts that have learned to hope through hardship. While the Philippines has a strong Christian presence, many still long to experience the fullness of freedom and healing that comes through a personal relationship with Jesus. This creates powerful opportunities to share His love and hope in tangible, life-changing ways.

Filipinos are known for their warmth and hospitality, often greeting others with a smile, a friendly “hello,” or a light handshake. Family is the heart of Filipino life, and gatherings—often centered around shared meals—are filled with laughter, storytelling, and connection. Time is viewed with a bit more flexibility, and relationships are valued far above strict schedules. Filipinos are naturally expressive and joyful in conversation, often using humor and gentle teasing as signs of affection. Deep respect for elders, a strong sense of community, and a spirit of generosity are woven into everyday life and culture.

As a U.S. citizen, you will not need to purchase a visa for Italy prior to arrival or upon entry. However, if you are not a U.S. citizen, you will be responsible for checking on your country of residence's process to obtain a visa for Italy.
Below is information from the U.S. Department of State as of September 2025. We will do our best to update if anything changes, but ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure you meet all entry requirements. Please review this carefully before travel.
PASSPORT VALIDITY: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure date from the Philippines.
BLANK PASSPORT PAGES: You should have at least 1 blank page available for entry and exit stamps.
TOURIST VISA REQUIRED: No. U.S. citizens may enter the Philippines without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, provided you have an onward or return ticket.
VACCINATIONS: No vaccinations are required for entry, though travelers are encouraged to consult the CDC website for recommended vaccines.
CURRENCY RESTRICTIONS (ENTRY/EXIT): You may bring in or take out up to ₱50,000 Philippine pesos. Amounts above this require authorization from the Central Bank of the Philippines. If carrying more than $10,000 USD (or equivalent in other currencies), you must declare it upon arrival or departure.
Here is the link to the State Department website.
The Philippines’ customs and immigration process is generally straightforward, and there is currently no separate online entry or exit form required for U.S. travelers. Upon arrival, you will present your passport to immigration officials and receive an entry stamp. Travelers may be asked about their length of stay, proof of lodging, or return ticket, but no advance paperwork is required.
For customs declarations, you will complete a paper form on the airplane or at the airport only if you are carrying items that need to be declared—such as large sums of money, restricted goods, or items for commercial use. If you are only traveling with personal luggage, you can typically proceed through the “Nothing to Declare” lane.
To make the process smooth:
Keep your passport and return ticket easily accessible.
Have the address or contact information for your lodging available.
If carrying more than $10,000 USD (or equivalent), you must fill out a declaration form upon entry or exit.
While there is no online form required, it’s a good idea to print copies of your flight itinerary and lodging confirmation in case of spot checks or limited Wi-Fi at the airport.
AIRPORT
You’ll be serving alongside one of our incredible ministry partners located in the Philippines. Parents will need to fly into Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport – MNL) on February 23, as ground transportation will be provided once you land. (Due to the length of flight you may want to land a dat early)
Please DO NOT purchase your plane ticket until the trip has been greenlighted. Once that happens, you will receive specific arrival and departure windows from Parent Ministry so you’ll know exactly when to book your flight and where to meet the group.
GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Adventures in Missions will provide ground transportation from the airport to your lodging location on February 23. Our staff will meet you upon arrival and ensure you’re safely transported to the ministry site. At the end of the trip, parents will depart together from the Philippines on February 28.
If you plan to arrive in the Philippines before the official PVT dates or stay afterward, please notify Parent Ministry so they can help you coordinate your travel to meet up with the group on the 23rd.
PACKING
You are required to travel with one carry-on bag and one personal item only. (Any items you plan to bring for your Racer must fit within this limit.)
We understand this may be a challenge, but there are two important reasons for this guideline:
We’re unable to make return trips to the airport if luggage is delayed or lost.
Local transportation is limited in space, and larger luggage simply cannot be accommodated.
Even if you arrange your own transportation to Manila, this carry-on limit still applies to ensure consistency for the entire group.
CLOTHING
Please refer to the general packing guidelines in the Personal Preparation section of the Trip Preparation tab. Be sure to check current weather conditions before departure.
Modesty and respect for local culture are important. Avoid clothing that is short, tight, or revealing. If you can’t raise your arms or bend without showing your stomach or lower back, please leave that item at home. Clothing should be clean, neat, and modest. Shorts should reach the top of the knee, and skirts or dresses should be at or below the knee. Short-sleeved shirts and lightweight fabrics are recommended for the warm climate. Comfortable shoes are a must—you’ll be walking frequently.
MEALS
Breakfast and lunch will be provided and covered by Adventures in Missions.
Dinner will be at your own expense.
On the adventure/free day, all meals will be covered by parents.
MINISTRY
You’ll have the opportunity to partner with ministries focused on bringing women out of sexual slavery and into freedom. This work is powerful and redemptive, offering women a chance to encounter hope, dignity, and restoration in Christ.
LODGING
Parents will stay in comfortable but simple accommodations such as guesthouses, hostels, or dorm-style housing, depending on availability. Adventures in Missions will cover lodging for your Racer during the week between the end of their regular ministry and the start of the PVT.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON FAMILY VISITS
Parents and family members are only permitted to spend time with Racers during the official PVT dates (February 23–28).
If you arrive early or stay longer, please plan accordingly—time with Racers outside the official PVT is not permitted.
FOOD / WATER / COFFEE
You’ll enjoy delicious Filipino meals during the trip! If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know ahead of time so we can do our best to accommodate you. Because some items may not be available locally, we recommend bringing a few snacks or protein bars just in case.
Filtered or bottled water will be provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle. Avoid drinking tap water or using it to brush your teeth. Coffee may or may not be provided—if you’re particular about your coffee, feel free to bring your own instant packets.
WIFI / INTERNET
There may be Wi-Fi at your lodging site, but connection speeds can vary and may not support many users at once. Please plan for limited internet access during the trip.
NON-MINISTRY DAY
On your non-ministry day, you’ll have free time to explore the local area and enjoy time with your Racer! Depending on the schedule, you may be asked to return in time for an evening worship or reflection time. All non-ministry day expenses (other than breakfast) are covered by parents.
DEPARTURE
Parents will depart from Manila on February 28.
Philippine electrical outlets use three types: A, B, and C, with 220-240V voltage. Type A (two flat pins) and Type B (two flat pins and a round ground pin) are common, similar to the US, but Type B is increasingly being installed for safety. Type C (two round pins) is also found. Travelers should bring an adapter, especially if coming from the US, and check if their devices can handle the higher voltage to avoid damage
