The process for developing our Kavli Lecture Series is refined after each iteration, and this lecture's path suggested that we need to make some educated and deliberate decisions earlier in the next lecture's timeline. These decisions include choosing the best day of the week for the lectures, determining the version of Uniview we'd broadcast in, figuring out how early to send media assets, and planning when to provide the lecture bundle to our partners. To educate these decisions, we sent our partners the following feedback survey when asking for their their attendance numbers and photos. 12 of our 17 partners participated in the survey.
This information is for Adler's internal decision-making only, please do not publish or reference it externally without contacting the Project Manager (Steve Burkland).
If no, how early does your institution need the media assets?
- Our institution needed some edits, which is why it took a bit longer. Typically we need the assets at least 4 weeks in advance to get the word out to various community calendars.
- The first bundle came on time, but a final bundle was sent on the day of the lecture, only an hour or so before the lecture. Since our internet connection is slow, we did not have enough time to download and install the new bundle. Luckily things seemed to work ok without the new bundle. Ideally a final bundle should come 2 days before the lecture.
- All details 3 months in advance would make our marketing folks happy.
- It was fine.
- Earlier is better, but the timeline was fine.
If no, why?
- From our experience, on Wednesday people tend not to show up if it's too early.
- It is hard for people on a campus to find an hour of time in the middle of the day on a Wednesday in May when the semester is coming to a close.
- We are in a different timezone, so only one of the lectures is suitable for our time. Even if the timezone was better suited to us, we would still stick to just one lecture, as we tend to get smaller audiences on weekdays, our usual events take place at the weekend.
- We just don't have the audience and it would disrupt our public shows.
- We would focus our marketing to one lecture. If we sold out one lecture, then the next domecast we might think about opening it up to both screenings.
If no, why?
- We think it's best to have one public showing so that we have a better occupancy.
- We have gigs on most Friday nights of the year. I would certainly not offer a Saturday night program if we had already an afternoon program on the same day.
- As above, we are in a different timezone, so only one of the lecture times is suitable for us.
- assuming an evening start time; day time might be possible depending on timing and working it into our regular public schedule (we are on the west coast)
- Same as above.
- Maybe. Saturdays would be easier to sell to public audiences than Wednesdays.
Assuming we broadcasted both lectures in your version of Uniview, what days or split of days would allow you to attend both lectures? (VR viewing sites, please ignore)

- We think it´s better to have just one lecture.
- The time of year really matters more than the day of the week. The second week of May is a bit too late I think; we suffer from spring fever. The November timing is better. Wednesday night can work or Saturday afternoon.
- Most would be open.
- We might consider if both days were Friday or Saturday or Sunday - but again only if the times were appropriate for us.
- I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. I don't think we would attend both lectures as it would split our audience (and we would need to bring in twice as much staff).
- Probably not, again, it is hard to fill the house with one showing.
- Any day except for Monday is usually good. Thursday evenings are when we usually try to have evening programming.

- Any days, Monday through Saturday would allow us to attend both days. To be honest, the ability to attend both lectures would be extremely helpful for guests interested but with varying schedules.

- We think it would be ideal to start the evening lecture around 6 to 6.30, as the noon lecture is very difficult for both students and working adults.
- It would be great to have some input on what the topic might be. You should carefully select for speakers who are animated presenters. thank you!
- Outline of the minimum spec required to run either Uniview 2 or Uniview 3.
- We love doing this! We really liked the creative approach to the carbon cycle (cartoony visual). Some general thoughts about the visuals: it would be great to have a little more movement in visuals where possible; more and more diverse visuals to look at; is there a way to limit the stuttering when turning on/off an image - either by using enabled true or using the alpha; thunder effects were fun but don't have the speaker talking while they are on as there was some distortion in the quality. (If you have questions about this - this is from Derek and Lisa in Vancouver.)

- In previous lectures, you have provided a script along with the bundle. This time there was no script. I found it helpful to have them in the past so I knew what should be on screen if there was technical issues and I knew what the key message of each visual was. Another thing, this time there seems to be commands built into the panels that are not obvious how to recreate that effect/animation if you were trying to use the module on it's own or out of sequence in the panels presentation. Also, there were more technical issues this time than in Nov 2017. The Nov 2017 exoplanet lecture seemed to run smoothly from my perceptive. The technical issues continued into the lecture itself this time and we still don't have a working panels presentation if we wanted to try to recreate the lecture.
