Taxes for International Students with Taxable Scholarships
International students who receive scholarships that cover more than just tuition (such as housing, meals, books, or fees) may be required to pay taxes on those additional benefits.
In some cases, tax treaties may reduce the amount owed, and sometimes ACU may cover part of he tax on your behalf.
No matter the situation, students in this category are required to complete the following steps:
Obtain or report a U.S. tax ID number (SSN or ITIN)
Complete the Glacier system onboarding
File a U.S. tax return each year
The office of International Students and Visiting Scholars (OISVS) is here to help guide you through the process and connect you with ACU Accounting Office when needed.
Step 1 : Get a Tax ID Number
*If you already have a Social Security Number (SSN) or ITIN, skip to Step 2.
