Goals for the 2019-2020 School Year

  • The Media Specialist and STEAM Lead Teacher intend to co-present at the Buncombe County STEAM Conference in August 2019
  • Use centralized PD website for all professional development offered to staff again for 2019-2020 school year, as introduced in Spring '19
  • Incorporate a lunchtime coding club using Bloxels for fifth grade students
  • Incorporate an additional coding club for girls only
  • Encourage school-wide participation in the Global Read Aloud in the fall of 2019, collaborating lessons with MC and STEAM Lead
  • Use QR codes throughout the building to highlight HFE specialties (TAPAS projects, Music Works, Book Fairs)
  • Use the QR codes for a scavenger hunt during the fall open house with a drawing for completed "passports"
  • Rebuild Digital Literacy team with staff as optional method to build individual skills
  • Focus on STEAM culture within classrooms to strengthen STEAM magnet focus
  • Create opportunities for digital professional development that is grade level oriented delivered in small groups
  • Continue STEAM Week Concept for a second year with a more streamlined focus, including a career day component
  • Incorporate lessons using the new 3D printer once it is procured from the funded grant
  • Continue and expand use of digital portfolios in classrooms to share and track student growth in fluency, math and other academic areas
  • Work on equity and representation in the library collection through student and parent surveys and in Elementary Battle of the Books
