STEAM CHALLENGES

EDP - The Engineering Design Process was introduced as third and fourth graders worked their way through STEAM challenges. Following the five step process, third graders followed a unit on land forms with a challenge that focused on erosion. Fourth grade used the same process as they built authentic replicas of Cherokee villages.

Unplugged Coding Clubs

Third, fourth and fifth graders met in the media center once a week for clubs. They used board games to focus on pattern recognition, problem solving, critical thinking, code breaking and code making. We are excited to add more games next year and start earlier in the year so that younger grades can be included, as well.

Collaborative Lessons

  • Support the integration of a pilot IXL math program at every grade level by leading model lessons and providing continued support.
  • Trained Kindergarten on use of OSMO tool for both literacy and math.
  • VR lessons using merge cubes with first and third grades centered around the moon and space
  • Collaboration with Second grade on life cycle unit, coding Dash the robot to explain the life cycle
  • Animal Trading Cards with First grade using Big Huge Labs
  • Science research lesson with Fourth grade
  • Magnetism lesson yielding both paper and digital products in fourth grade
  • SeeSaw and Chatterpix project with Kindergarten
