Lunch for first day**
A light backpack to carry water, snacks, and supplies for hiking
Large water bottle(s)** (Water will be available at camp for refilling)
Pen or pencil
Bandana or handkerchief or small towel (that you will carry with you at all times)
Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Mosquito repellant
A large bag that can be carried (e.g. duffel bag) that holds -
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc…)
Clothes for three active days- including (note: all clothing must follow school dress code)
Warm clothes for evening activities, i.e. sweatshirt, jacket, hat (It can actually get quite cold!)
Comfortable clothes for two days of significant physical activity
Swimsuit (if you want to swim)
2 - 3 pairs of socks, Shoes
Tennis shoes for walking on rocks along the trail (make sure that the shoes have a good “tread” on the bottom to prevent slipping)
Other shoes for the bus rides and at the campground
Other supplies (optional):
Flashlight
Binoculars
Snacks (but make sure they’re sealed (and re-sealable) or you could end up with “critters” in your room :)**
Money to purchase items at the NGO visits on Thursday.
What NOT to bring:
electronic devices
weapons (including multitools with knives)
any food with NUTS
anything you don’t want getting dirty . . .
**One of the focal points of this trip is on the “footprint” we leave. In light of this, be aware of the trash that you bring with you.
What can you do to minimize the wrappers, papers, bags, etc. that you leave behind?
(Ideally, we would take the approach of: if we “pack it in,” we will “pack it out.” As such, we encourage you to re-package food before the trip and to bring only re-usable items for the trip itself.)
