As a group you will work through creating a soundscape that sounds like a place we can visit. You need to create a space that we are walking in around and through. Together as a group practice your scene and then present to the class live. Feedback will be provided throughout and you will be able to adjust and adapt based on that feedback
Your project is to create a soundscape for a specific space with a specific feeling. You will be using the program Garage Band that is found on the Apple Computer. I have attached a variety of tutorials that are fairly short for you to review on how to create that effect.
**If you do not have an apple computer, you would need to find an alternative program to work on that can help you create sound effects** https://www.biglittlegeek.com/best-garageband-alternatives-for-windows-pc/
You will look on the Choice Board document and select a location, a mood and a time frame that you would like to use to create your soundscape. You do not have to have a working knowledge of music for this project, but you must consider how the audience will know where we are located by the sounds you put together.
You will need to create a soundscape that will last at least 1:30 minute in length. You need to take us through the space so that it sounds like we are entering, walking through and then exiting that space. You should consider that when you walk through a space certain things will get louder and quieter as we get closer and further away from them. Consider LAYERS and adjust volumes. You will need to create a continuous sound feeling... meaning that it is more sound than silence. Consider creating a low musical mood, or effect in the background and then adding in sound effects.
You will need to create at least
1) 3 original sound effects for your soundscape.
2) Digital SFX
3) Vocal FX
4) Sampled Sound bytes. ADD LAYERS
5) 1:30 minutes in length minimum. 2:30 minutes maximum.
6) Some of your loops/tracks/sfx need to have been manipulated in some way.(effects, volume, channel, octave, tempo etc)
A) You will need to export your audio file and attach it to this assignment.
B) You will also need to do a screen capture (video of your file running so that I can see the tabs and layers of your work in action). Please consider using Screencast, loom, Quicktime etc.

A quick video showing you how I used Garage band really quickly to play with some of the tools.
Alrighteeee!
You guys have had a very good experience working with creating live foley as a group in class, and then working on your own personal soundscape in Garage Band. Now... you will have the choice of two videos to add your sound onto. You will need to create a complete sound track for at least 1 continuous minute of the selected video. The video itself might be longer, but you need to find 1 solid minute of the video that you will do.
Requirements:
1 Minute of solid video to create a soundscape
4 live Foley recordings must be included.
Manipulation of sound effects must be included (volume, pan, echo, reverb etc). The soundscape should have multiple layers of sound played.
Your choices of video are:
1) Cartoon of Bugs Bunny/Knight/Dragon. 2 minute film. (ONLY choose 1 solid minute to create the sound for)
2) Film: Lara Croft nearly 5 min film (ONLY choose 1 solid minute to create the sound for)
3) Quick time/Screen cast of your GarageBand tracks in action.

My friend and Sound Engineer Steve Lyster working in Canada prepared a short video on something he currently uses and works on. Look through the document, and watch the videos. Write in your GDOC Digital Journal an entry related to this video. Relate it to your own learning and creating foley. How has your understanding changed from before this sound project to after?? Talk about how you can relate to the work you did in GB and using live foley to what he has done. Comment on the difference that can be created through mixing and editing.
Here is a video on the soundboard we have in the auditorium
