This semester course is an introduction to Design for grade eight students. Design is the structure of art. It is the well-planned aspects of any kind of art. While working on a variety of original projects - through drawing, painting, and printmaking - students will become familiar with some of the ways that the elements of art can be successfully arranged according to the Principles of Design. Students will experiment with the expressive qualities of line, shape, and texture using a range of concepts and materials. They will organize and manipulate shapes, forms and color to create illusions of space and movement. They will engage in an authentic creative process, from brainstorming to the construction of the final projects.
