The first day of school for students will be as agreed with the Admissions team. On this day, families are invited to attend a welcome & orientation session. We recommend that you make every effort to attend.
Please refer to the Divisional Welcome letter that will confirm the time when you should arrive on campus, and the format of the day. Lower School parents will usually drop their child off to class at 8:30 am, and then head to the Main reception for a welcome and Q&A session for parents. Middle, Upper & High school parents will accompany their child to a divisional orientation at 9 am for an hour, after which the student will head to class and the parents will head to the main reception for a welcome and Q&A session.
During the parents' session, you will be able to ask any questions you have about school facilities & protocols, collect your parent lanyards / car stickers, and also get an overview of the main communication platforms. If you haven't already been connected with parents in your child's grade or other ACS families from your 'home country', you will also be able to do so at this time. This informal session is led by a current parent, who is also a PSO liaison and a staff member; and it usually lasts an hour.
Unless otherwise agreed (e.g. for our youngest students), your child will be in school for the full day (i.e. until 3:30 on Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri, and 2:30 pm on a Wed). If you have arranged for them to take the afternoon bus home, then they will be able to do this on Day 1 - the divisional team will ensure they are aware of where & how.
What do the students need to bring?
Students should wear comfortable clothes/shoes, bring a refillable water bottle and a healthy snack, plus a lunch plan i.e. plan to eat at the Dining Hall or bring a packed lunch.
(Please note that we are a strictly 'nut free' school. More information on Lunch and Snacks can be found in the Catering pages).
Note about school lunch - Lower School families, if you have not yet had your onboarding code for 'Fusion' (the lunch order app), but would like your child to have lunch in the dining hall, please let your class teacher know. Ordering is only needed for Lower School. Senior School students pick up lunch themsleves, checking out with biometric data. They will be able to get their biometrics registered when they visit the Dining Hall. Please rest assured, that students won't go hungry if the above arrangements are not yet complete; they will still be able to pick up lunch on the day.
For students in Grades 5 and above, if you have not yet had the chance to purchase all the items from the Divisional supply lists, please do not worry. A pen, pencil, and notepad for the first day will be sufficient.
Students in Grade 5 and above will receive their iPads during orientation, and those in Grade 9 and above will receive their MacBooks if purchased via Edutech.
The ACS PE Kit is essential for PE lessons (Grades 1 to 10). We advise you to order the kit ASAP as it can take some time to be delivered in busy periods. But for the first few PE lessons, if you cannot be in your PE kit, please don't worry. Kindly make sure your alternative clothes are comfortable, appropriate for PE (e.g. tracks or leggings rather than dresses or jeans), and ideally, navy or black, rather than bright colours.
All day-to-day school events for each Division are recorded on the Schoology Calendar - this can be viewed once you have activated your login to Schoology (School Intranet). You will also be able to get an overview during the parent session, on how to check the Schoology calendar.
In the meantime, you can view the broader school dates (i.e. term breaks, start and end of academic year, bank holidays) on the Academic Calendar published on the ACS Cobham website.
