Our Purpose

The Communications & Media team supports ACLED’s Global Rapid Crisis Response and Conflict Knowledge strategic objectives by communicating ACLED’s work effectively and efficiently to external audiences, strengthening reputation in the press, and expanding the reach of conflict knowledge to new and specialist stakeholders.

Media Relations & Social Media

Expanding audiences and building mass recognition, while maintaining and growing media coverage to strengthen engagement from Tier 1 and specialist publications.

Publications

Publications ensures consistency in brand voice, tone, and structure across external outputs, providing editorial oversight and web and SEO optimisation to maximise reach and accessibility.

As journalism becomes more under-resourced and deadline-driven, with cross-platform delivery now standard, media relations and social media operate in alignment to deliver clear data, analysis, and commentary to diverse audiences.

Proactive Engagement

Proactive engagement is analysis-led and planned. We work with you early to develop media and social packages that draw out key findings — surfacing individual insights, data points, or trends to reach different audiences and maximise impact across media and social channels.

Reactive Engagement

Reactive engagement is fast and responsive, focused on breaking or escalating situations. We aim to contribute early with a short, authoritative media comment that provides immediate context, then continue to add value through follow-up data, analysis, visuals, and additional media or social outputs as events evolve.

Communications & Media FAQ

Question: I’ve seen something happen that I think could be newsworthy. What should I do?

Answer: Flag it to Bron Mills, Media Relations Manager, and email details to press@acleddata.com.

Question: I’ve been approached by a journalist or external organisation. What should I do?

Answer: If you feel comfortable responding, please do - and copy in press@acleddata.com so we are aware of the interaction and can support if necessary. If you're not comfortable, flag the request to Bron Mills, Media Relations Manager.

Question: I’ve seen another organisation use ACLED data or analysis without crediting us. What should I do?

Answer: Flag this to Tania Corbett, Head of External Affairs, with any relevant links or screenshots.

Question: I need to update text in a published Regional Overview or analysis. Who should I contact?

Answer: Contact Danny Lord (Web Manager), or Eva Doummar (Digital Officer) if unavailable. Loop in Bron Mills if the change has external implications.

Question: I’ve noticed an issue on an official ACLED social media post. Who should I contact?

Answer: Contact Claudia Azanedo or Bron Mills, Media Relations Manager, as soon as possible.
