About Ms. Herring

Ms. Herring began her position as a school counselor in the Alamance-Burlington School System  first at Harvey Newlin Elementary in January 2010 before moving to Western Middle in the 2021-2022 school year.  She graduated from North Carolina A & T State University in 2009 with her Master's in Counselor Education.  Previous to obtaining her Master's degree, she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Ms. Herring and Ms. Lombard both work with 8th graders during high school registration.  Ms. Herring is assigned to students with the last names A-LN.  Ms. Lombard is assigned to students LO-Z. Even though both counselors work with this same group of students throughout their middle school years, they will always work with any student as needed.  We are happy to talk with any student who requests to talk with one of us.

Ms. Herring writes:

In my free time, outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, Rylie, my son Gannon, reading, watching movies, listening to music, being outdoors, and traveling.  My daughter is in her first year of college and my son is in kindergarten.  They are everything to me, my pride and joy.  I know, firsthand, the importance of a parent's role.  I can relate to parents by knowing that there is no other love like the love a parent has for his or her child.

I care very much for your children, and I am here to assist in helping each and every child excel academically, socio-emotionally, and in building future education and career goals.  I am very passionate about my work as a professional school counselor.  I  really enjoy working with children, and I find this career to be intrinsically rewarding.

I believe that we can help ALL students be successful by collaborating as a team to provide a nurturing, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.  My role as a school counselor is to assist in helping each and every child excel academically, socially, and personally by working with individual students, in small group settings, and large classroom settings.  I am part of the Student Support Team (SST), and we work with students, teachers, and parents to achieve student success stories.  I believe when everyone works together in supporting and caring for our students they are able to thrive and be successful in all areas of life.

Please feel free to contact Ms. Herring at holly_herring@abss.k12.nc.us for any academic or personal/social concerns.
