In Mythbusters, students will test myths and urban legends through scientific methods to determine the truth. This includes experimentation and exploration of common myths as well as lesser known concepts.
The mission of this course is to ignite, inspire, and motivate students to develop a love for learning and exploration in science. We will conduct experiments and hands-on activities to prove that chemistry is relevant, fun and valuable in our everyday lives.
In this course, campers are provided the opportunity to design, create, and pitch using a variety of materials. Build Rube Goldberg machines, pitch inventions “Shark Tank” style, and more.
Launch in to the world of coding by learning the basics of the program, Scratch. Campers will design and create their own video games and animations. This course is for all campers no matter their level of experience with Scratch.
In Intro to Woodshop Design, campers will learn carpentry skills enabling them to design and construct their own wood projects.
More experience campers who would like to advance their carpentry skill levels, taking on more complicated projects can sign up for Woodshop Design II.
In Math Challenges, campers have an opportunity to test and expand their math skills. This is a math enrichment course with a special emphasis on games, puzzles, challenges, and problem solving.
Campers will learn math concepts such as problem solving, comprehension, basic skills, geometry and fractions while also working on project based assignments. The class utilizes small group learning designed to develop critical thinking skills and boost confidence.
Campers discover the world of electronic circuits, electromagnetic circuitry, transistor circuitry, IC circuitry and seven-segment display circuitry. Experienced staff supports campers as they create gadgets which flash, beep and make annoying noises.
This course will take you into the wilderness and show you what Albemarle and its wildlife has to offer. Watch the circle of life, swallows hunting dragonflies, hawks hunting swallows, bees pollinating flowers. Albemarle life has it all. Campers will observe and learn about local New England plant and animal life.
