Roqaya Al Sabah:
The main idea of the article (Three Things Journalism Writing Can Teach Students)
The main purpose of the article was focused on how journalism is a writing style that specializes in clarity, conciseness, and accuracy. “Academic style is the style of nearly every academic work, from the first research essay to a doctoral dissertation.” Journalism writing helps students improve their writing by having them include an attention-grabbing introduction, organization within, clarity, and a conclusion which leads to your point.
What is a KWL graphic organizer?
The KWL graphic organizer is a method that helps students organize important information. The "K" stands for know, meaning what the students already know about the topic, the "W" stands for want, meaning what the students aspires to learn about, and lastly the "L" stands for what I have learned. This method is typically used to help get students engaged in a certain topic.

An example of a KWL Graphic Organizer is as follows:
What I already know:
I believe that just like reading, journalism advances the writing skills of the students. The student will be able to write a well-constructed story, with a much more complicated word choice.
I believe that other than writing skills the students would gain better communication skills. Communication is more than just a person’s words, but it also includes the tone of the voice, facial expressions, gestures and posture.
Through journalism, students will have the opportunity to write various kinds of stories about a variety of topics. Since through reading, writing, editing, and photography a student could become much more creative and imaginative.
What I want to know:
I would like to know whether or not journalism would have an effect on the student’s social life, and his/her way of thinking (mindset).
Does journalism cause a person to become outgoing, in other words, does it cause the person to become more courageous and spread his/her ideas?
Do students really develop a voice and reach out to others to help them in raising theirs too?
What I learned:
I’ve learnt that journalism is simply writing that is based on clarity, conciseness and accuracy.
Journalism helps students learn how to write an introduction paragraph. The first paragraph must engage the reader, but at the same time it must mention all the important information (by answering: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?)
Journalism teaches students a writing structure called the inverted pyramid to help organize the essay. It is basically when the writer mentions all the important facts and information at the beginning of the writing and as you read more of the news article/story the facts mentioned become less important.
