St Machar Academy achieves SCQF School Ambassador Gold

The SCQF School Ambassador programme offers schools the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of the SCQF and the wider ways in which it supports learners such as recognising wider achievement, developing Senior Phase learning pathways in line with the Developing the Young Workforce strategy and giving equality between vocational and academic qualifications.

St Machar Academy successfully met five themes including:

• Whole School Approach: St Machar Academy has embedded the SCQF School Ambassador programme into the culture of the school. Pathways are clearly mentioned in the school’s Self-Evaluation & Improvement Plan and there is a system in place to review progress every session.

• Pupil Awareness: Pupils lead SCQF promotion and are offered the opportunity to receive recognition for their work through the SQA Leadership Award at SCQF level 6. New pupil ambassadors are appointed each session and are willing to support pupil ambassadors in neighbouring school new to the programme.

• Parental Engagement & Understanding: St Machar Academy has actively raised awareness of the SCQF in a variety of ways. In addition to presentations by pupil ambassadors at parents’/curriculum evenings, SCQF resources are available via the school website (pathways) website, in the partnership corridor and distributed through Google Classroom.

• Curriculum Pathways: St Machar Academy has developed a significant range of pathways for senior phase pupils allowing them to progress through SCQF levels. These pathways include both SQA & non-SQA qualifications and recognise personal learning & achievement at all SCQF levels with clearly identified outcomes & goals. All qualifications on offer across different SCQF levels are equally valued & understood by pupils, parents/carers, staff and partners.

• Development of External Relationships: A significant number of external relations and progression pathways have been developed in partnership. St Machar Academy is actively creating links with neighbouring schools, local employers, and North East Scotland College; creating opportunities to collaborate and share ideas.

St Machar Academy is the first school in Aberdeen City to achieve SCQF School Ambassador Gold.
