The course consists of four units.
1. Travel and Tourism in the UK
In this unit you will develop a greater understanding of the role travel and tourism plays in the UK. You will investigate how the UK government and various organisations are involved in the regulation and promotion of tourism as well as analyse the value tourism has on the UK and its economy.
2. Sustainable Practices in Travel and Tourism
In this unit, you will develop an understanding of the principles of sustainable development and how they apply to travel and tourism. You will examine how tourism impacts the host environment and communities as well as assess strategies and practices used to manage sustainable tourism in a range of destinations.
3. The Scottish Tourism Product: An Introduction
In this unit you will gain an understanding of the main factors which combine to make Scotland attractive to visitors as well as analyse the main activities and special interests visitors may enjoy in Scotland.
4. Skills for Customer Care
In this unit, you will be able to recognise the importance of customer care within a work environment, considering the key principles of good customer care and how this affects the success of an organisation. You will gain experience developing relationships with customers as well as developing different communication techniques and ways of establishing a rapport with customers.
There is no external exam for NPA Level 6 Travel and Tourism. Instead, there is continuous assessment throughout the year which is marked internally on a Pass/Fail basis. Learners must pass all of the four required units to pass the course.
HNC/HND in Travel and Tourism or a related area, such as hospitality or events management
SVQ or modern apprenticeship in the travel and tourism sector or a related area
A range of employment in the travel and tourism sector
