This National Progression Award is aimed at those who want to explore their interest in photography, increasing their understanding and develop their skills in practical photography and in working with photographs. The course does not rely on specialist photographic equipment and can be completed using a basic camera or digital device with a camera.
The course offers an introduction to photography and will focus on:
the essentials: basic camera controls /composition and lighting
downloading / storage and computer manipulation
There are four units which will be covered in the course:
Unit 1: Understanding Photography
Unit 2: Photographing People
Unit 3: Photographing Places
Unit 4: Working with Photographs
The aim is to provide learners with the basic knowledge and skills required to undertake the course units. Learners should aim to further develop this knowledge and these skills as the course progresses.
All units are internally assessed against unit requirements on a PASS/FAIL basis. Evidence will be a combination of practical, written and oral.
The skills and knowledge developed in this course can be used for various progressions, as into N5/H Art & Design and N5 Graphics.
