The aims of the course are:
▪ To investigate relationships, social attitudes and issues;
▪ develop a range of appropriate skills in voice, movement, acting and stagecraft,
▪ integrate these skills in production
▪ Analyse, research and perform text
▪ develop an understanding of professional theatre practice
▪ explore and develop an awareness of the self
The course is divided into two units:
1. Theatre Skills in Performance
2. Professional Theatre in Context
Through these units, candidates will develop their performance skills, explore and thoroughly
research published texts, in order to successfully rehearse and present pieces of work. These skills
will be supplemented by knowledgeable analysis of their own work and of others. Candidates will
additionally develop their analytical and evaluative skills through research and examination of
professional theatre companies and performances.
Course Content
The course consists of two units.
1. Theatre Skills in Performance
This unit requires candidates to demonstrate knowledgeable understanding of stagecraft and the
roles and relationship of Actors and Directors. Candidates will rehearse, develop and evaluate
their performance of a published play.
2. Professional Theatre in Context
The Production Skills unit requires candidates to analyse two contrasting professional theatrical
productions in different styles /genres. Candidates will explore the roles and responsibilities of the
director, artistic and technical members of a production team prior to attending the productions.
Candidates will consider the contrast between productions and evaluate the effectiveness of the
technical and artistic aspects of each production.
Acting & Performance - NPA
Assessment
NPA Acting & Performance, assessment consists of:
▪ Written and/or Oral reports and presentations for each element of the course
▪ Performance in front of an agreed audience.
▪ Pupils must pass both Units to pass the course.
▪ There is no external exam.
