This course further develops knowledge in areas of Food and Nutrition. There is a practical element through an assignment or project where pupils have the opportunity to design their own product following an SQA brief. They will plan, research and design as well as make and evaluate the product. There is an element of experimental cooking, product analysis as well as looking at new developments in the food industry. This course is at Levels N4 and N5 and there is progression into Higher.
This course develops planning and organisational skills, while demonstrating an understanding of the link between knowledge and practical skills.
The course is split into 3 units which are interlinked with the assignment (project):

The course assessment has two components.
1. Question paper - SQA exam which is sat in the main exam diet.
2. Assignment - This is worked through in class time. Pupils are given a brief from the SQA to develop a product. They will plan, make and evaluate the product. The paperwork is sent to the SQA to be marked externally.
