Through a range of experimental and research activities you will develop your skills of scientific inquiry, investigation and analytical thinking, along with knowledge and understanding in thecontext. You will explore the role of Biology in scientific issues and relevant applications in society and the environment. You will enhance your proficiency in scientific literacy and numeracy.
There are three mandatory units and the key areas covered are shown:
1. Cell Biology
Includes the study of cell structure, transport across cell membranes, DNA and the production of proteins, genetic engineering and respiration.
2. Multicellular Organisms and Cell Division
Includes the study of new cell production, control and communication, reproduction, variation and inheritance, and transport systems of plants and animals.
3. Life on Earth
Includes the study of new ecosystems, distribution of organisms, photosynthesis, energy in ecosystems, food production, evolution of species.
The course is assessed externally through a question paper and submission of an assignment.

Achievement of Level 4 Biology in S3.
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the sciences, learners may benefit from studying N5 Biology along with other N5 science subjects, as this may enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding.
This course may provide progression to Scientific Technologies , Higher Biology or related areas, further study, employment or training.
