The main purpose of the Course is to research and analyse factors which underpin and impact on performance, and use this knowledge to develop their own performance or that of others. To do this effectively, learners will engage in research and undertake independent investigative work, and develop skills of analysis, evaluation, and communication.
During the Course, learners will also understand how to develop consistency of performance in challenging environments and become proficient in their ability to analyse and apply strategies and techniques to make appropriate decisions about their personal performance.
Learners will carry out independent research and analysis of the impact of mental, emotional, social and physical factors on performance. The learning experiences in the course are flexible and adaptable, with opportunities for personalisation and choice.
The course aims to:
develop a broad and comprehensive range of complex movement and performance skills, and demonstrate them safely and effectively in a challenging context
select and apply skills by making informed decisions in a physical activity
understand how skills, techniques and strategies combine to produce an effective performance
investigate the impact of mental, emotional, social and physical factors on performance
the process of performance development understand and apply approaches to develop performance
The course assessment has two components:
Practical Performance 30% - One activity will be assessed out of 30 marks. Internally assessed.
Project (4000-5000 words) 70% - 70 marks completed throughout the year. Externally assessed.
