Visual Art or Design Study
This study will link directly to the Expressive or Design Enquiry. It covers the development of knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the Visual/Applied Arts and Design, both historical and contemporary. You will be able to use the knowledge gained to inform and develop your own practical work. This takes the form of an in-depth critical analysis of a single or group of art or design works up to 2000 words.
There is no written exam at Advanced Higher level. The Practical Portfolio, the 2000-word critical analysis, and an end of course evaluation are sent to the SQA for external assessment.
Successful completion of this course can lead to further study, training or employment in Art and Design, Communications and Media and the Manufacturing Industries.
All Advanced Higher students are expected to complete folio work in addition to class time. This level of commitment is necessary to achieve success at this level. This can take a variety of forms: non-contact periods, lunchtime, after school, at home. Students are expected to visit relevant exhibitions and galleries throughout the year and keep sketchbooks showing visual thinking, inspirations, notes, cut outs, etc.
A high level of commitment is required to achieve success at Advanced Higher level due to the practical and written folio requirement of this course.
