Children’s language skills are developed through a programme of language work involving listening, talking, reading and writing.
Structured programmes are in place which promote the children’s development in these four areas and this will include work on phonics, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Reading is taught using a wide variety of books to develop comprehension and fluency.
As well as programmes, children develop language naturally in a variety of different experiences across the curriculum.
Our Aims (in line with Education Scotland guidelines):
For all learners to become confident and competent writers by developing their ability to use a wide range of vocabulary, spelling strategies and punctuation.
To expose learners to a wide range of high-quality texts and a range of authors.
To allow learners to write across a variety of contexts such as report writing, persuasive writing, report writing, instruction writing and poetry.
To ensure all learners can write legibly and spell accurately alongside having a secure understanding of grammar.
To allow learners to become independent writers by planning and creating their own texts as they move through primary school.
