Regular attendance at school helps to build good habits to enable children to reach their full potential. Persistent absence from school impacts pupil attainment. Children must not be absent without reasonable excuse.
Legal Responsibility: Once enrolled, children must attend school regularly. Parents can be fined or face legal action for continued unauthorised absences.
At Holy Family RC School, in accordance with Aberdeen City Council, we aspire for 100% attendance, with 90% being the minimum standard expected.
If your child is going to be absent please ensure that you notify the office by telephone or email on the first day of absence by 9.30am. All unexplained absences are followed up.
Attendance is regularly reviewed and monitored to ensure our pupils are in school and to provide support/interventions in the event of declining attendance.
School works alongside our designated Home School Liaison Officers to identify and act upon cases of non-attendance. There is a staged intervention policy in place across all city schools to assist with managing pupil attendance.
Further information regarding attending school in Scotland can be found here: Guide to School Attendance
If your child has a medical appointment and needs to leave school, please contact the office along with a copy of the appointment card/letter. Pupils should be collected by an adult at all time.
There is an expectation for children to attend school during the designated term times. In the event of a pupil absence on account of a holiday during term time, this would be recorded as an unauthorised absence.
If you require your child to be absent due to a family emergency or extenuating circumstances, we ask that you communicate this to the Head Teacher for authorisation.

School starts at 9am daily and all pupils are expected to arrive on time.
Any pupil who is late for school must enter via the main office and sign the late register.
Late arrivals are monitored on a regular basis to identify persistent lateness which impacts on attainment. Pupils arriving late can miss the start of the school day and important input from the class teacher. It can be unsettling for the child and disruptive to the learning of the class.
To ensure the safeguarding of our pupils, our policy is for all children in P1-3 to be collected by an adult at the end of the school day. Pupils in P4-7 can walk home (at their parent's discretion).
If there is a change to the home time arrangement and another adult is collecting your child, please ensure you communicate this to the office by 12.30 to ensure staff are aware.
The end of the school day is 3.15pm. Children must be collected promptly. If a child is late being collected, staff will bring them to the school office and the parent will be contacted.
We appreciate that on occasion, parents may be unavoidably delayed, however, regular occurances of late pick up will be monitored and addressed by our Senior Leadership team.
